Our client is seeking applicants for the role of R&D Engineer - Glass. This position is responsible for working as a member of the global R&D glass team to apply engineering knowledge of glass, glass bending, and tempering to design, develop, and implement innovative technologies to improve bending capabilities to meet demanding specifications in new automotive glass designs. Additionally, this position will support the automotive business unit and manufacturing facilities by providing technical bending expertise for new model development and resolution of manufacturing issues. Relocation assistance is available for qualified applicants.
Essential Functions:
Apply engineering knowledge and experience to R&D and manufacturing glass products and processes
Evaluate technical feasibility of existing processes to meet the manufacturing requirements of new automotive programs
Support the design and implementation of new and existing processes to improve process capability and product quality/performance
Support implementation of R&D projects into global manufacturing facilities
Collaborate closely with manufacturing, and other internal departments, to identify process improvement opportunities
Conduct trials and analyze research data to develop new or improved products and processes
Maintain accurate and detailed records (laboratory notebook and documents)
Prepare presentations and reports, and communicate test results of research activities to management
Provide technical input to the design and installation of process tooling to conduct testing and development activities
Maintain and plan preventative maintenance on the R&D and development center process equipment
Troubleshoot issues with R&D and development center equipment and processes
Manage risk assessments on new and modified equipment
Able to travel domestically and internationally to R&D centers, manufacturing plants, supplier, and customer locations
Qualifications Required:
BS in Ceramics, Materials Science or related major are preferred but NOT required. Experience will be considered in lieu of degree
Engineering knowledge of glass
Minimum 2 years of experience working with glass manufacturing and/or glass development engineering
Demonstrated knowledge of problem-solving techniques
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Able to travel approximately 20% of the time
Qualifications Desired:
Experience with glass coatings
Understanding of Six Sigma quality improvement
Understanding of DFMEA and PFMEA
Salary and Benefits
Salary range $90,000 - $130,000 plus up to 20% bonus potential (compensation will be based on education and experience)
