Job Description - Reading Interventionist


The Reading Interventionist provides targeted literacy support to students who are performing below grade-level expectations in reading. Working collaboratively with classroom teachers, instructional leaders, and families, the Reading Interventionist designs and implements evidence-based interventions that accelerate student achievement and support literacy growth across grades K–12. The Interventionist utilizes assessment data to identify student needs, monitor progress, and ensure students receive appropriate instructional support aligned with North Carolina standards and the school's academic goals.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Student Intervention and Instruction



  • Provide individual and small-group reading interventions for students identified through screening and assessment data.

  • Deliver research-based literacy instruction focused on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing.

  • Develop and implement intervention plans tailored to individual student needs.

  • Support students in achieving grade-level reading proficiency and academic success.

  • Utilize a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework to provide targeted interventions.


Assessment and Progress Monitoring



  • Administer literacy assessments and screeners as assigned.

  • Analyze student performance data to identify instructional needs and intervention priorities.

  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust interventions accordingly.

  • Maintain accurate records of student participation, growth, and outcomes.

  • Assist with school-wide literacy data analysis and reporting.


Collaboration and Communication



  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align intervention strategies with core instruction.

  • Participate in MTSS, intervention, special education, and student support meetings.

  • Provide teachers with instructional strategies and resources to support struggling readers.

  • Communicate student progress and intervention outcomes with families.

  • Work collaboratively with counselors, exceptional education staff, administrators, and instructional coaches.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, Elementary Education, English Education, Special Education, or related field.

  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience preferred.
