The Seaway Valley Prevention Council seeks a creative and determined individual to serve as its full-time Reality Check Coordinator.
The Reality Check Coordinator oversees the Reality Check program in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties. Reality Check is a youth-led movement in New York State that empowers young people to become community leaders. Supported by adults, the initiative exposes the tobacco industry's manipulative and deceptive marketing tactics.
The Reality Check Coordinator coordinates with multiple school districts to recruit and retain active youth members for lunchtime or after-school meetings.
Reality Check youth members engage with their communities to raise awareness about tobacco's negative impact. They educate the key decision makers in their local communities and work to promote new tobacco-free policies in or near youth-centered locations such as parks, playgrounds, businesses, schools, and other organizations.
The position includes outreach to local school districts, partnering with school administration and teachers, facilitating youth groups, speaking to local decision makers, designing and facilitating community events, and partnering with local youth groups outside school districts.
Ideal candidates should enjoy working with teenagers, be comfortable with public speaking, and enjoy being creative. Successful candidates must also be able to design and lead large-scale events and work well independently.
The position involves local travel between the three counties. Some evening and weekend hours are required to accommodate the youth schedules and community events.

The minimum requirement is a Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Health, or a related field.
