The amounts and types of auto insurance coverage vary between carriers, but the most common coverages are outlined as follows:
- Collision Coverage
- Comprehensive/Other Than Collision Coverage
- Liability Coverage
- Uninsured Motorist Coverage
Collision coverage refers to coverage that will apply to your vehicle if it collides with something (i.e., another vehicle, an object, a pothole, etc.).
Comprehensive/other than collision coverage refers to coverage that would apply to your vehicle if it were damaged/impacted by a peril other than a collision (i.e., fire, theft, glass damage, etc.).
Liability coverage is used to pay for bodily injury and/or property damages that you cause others as a result of operating your vehicle. This coverage is required by law in Virginia if your vehicle has active license plates.
