Position Summary:
The Recovery Coach & Outreach Specialist helps community members with substance use disorder (SUD) with mobile support through engagement and in response to SUD/Recovery situations and requests. The Recovery Coach & Outreach Specialist will assess the situation, lend a supportive ear, help to find solutions, and engage with clinical team to decide next steps for community member. The Recovery Coach & Outreach Specialist will support Wabanaki Community Members within the community through empathetic connection, transportation to treatment, and other recovery programing. Travel will be required of this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Outreach and engage people entering recovery and harm reduction in the tribal district and other places as identified.
Identify urgent care needs, resource needs, strengths, and
Assist individuals in need of recovery support and help link urgent care, recovery, and/or other treatment needs along a continuum of care.
Use active listening to gather important information about client’s current substance use and needs.
Engage participant in developing an individualized healing plan in collaboration with clinical care team.
Participate in team meetings and amplify client voice and choice regarding care
Adhere to client confidentiality requirements and
Help participants complete applications and other required documentation as needed to support needs.
Participate in meetings, in-service training, staff development, and other professional growth activities as required or needed.
Collect and record data and submit documentation to supervisor at the end of each work
Outreach to different programs to explore bed availability as directed by client
Provide input in continued quality improvement activities and policies and procedure
Provide a warm and supporting hand-off of community member into detox and/or
Support other recovery programs within the organization, as
Participate on advisory groups or task forces related to substance use recovery as
Position Requirements:
High School or equivalent
Must be over the age of 18
Minimum of two (2) years of continuous
Recovery Coach Training and Recovery Coach Ethics
Must be a Registered Recovery Coach (or be able to complete within 6 months of hire), with a desire to become a Certified Recovery Coach within first year of employment.
Valid State of Maine Driver’s License, insurable under the WPHW’s automobile insurance plan.
Emergency medical response training (CPR/First Aid/BLS), or obtained upon
Must be able to physically respond to individuals’ needs in the event of a crisis
Willingness to travel with some overnights for trainings, meetings, gatherings, and
Positive attitude and independently
Experience working with substance use
Experience working with Indigenous populations and in Tribal communities preferred .
Ability to listen and convey
Strong communication skills both verbal and
Basic computer skills including Word; Excel; Outlook, Teams,
Ability to work where there is prolonged sitting, standing,
Familiarity with resources in and out of the Native

Attend and participate in Recovery Outreach staff meetings and other meetings as deemed appropriate and necessary by your immediate supervisor.

Must have completed or be willing to complete the CCAR Recovery Coach Certification
CCAR Recovery Coach Academy
CCAR Ethic in Recovery Coaching
Maintain and keep up to date any required certifications and licenses
Motivation to attend and participate in continuing and required education and trainings:
Mental Health First Aid
De-escalation Training
QPR Training
Overdose recognition and reversal training
Must pass criminal background check
