Key Responsibilities:
Program Development & Management:
Design and implement age-appropriate programs for pre-teens and teens, including camps, after-school activities, sports, and e-sports.
Develop and manage seasonal calendars and activity guides.
Evaluate program effectiveness and adjust based on feedback and trends.
School System Collaboration:
Coordinate with school personnel to identify youth needs.
Promote programs through school visits and presentations.
Organize joint school-community initiatives.
Participant Engagement and Safety:
Foster positive relationships with youth participants.
Ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
Manage behavior expectations and effectively resolve conflicts.
Administration and Communication:
Recruit, train, and supervise part-time staff, volunteers, and interns.
Maintain accurate records and prepare promotional materials.
Manage program outreach efforts on social media and community platforms.
Partnership and Resource Development:
Collaborate with community organizations and local businesses.
Seek sponsorships and grants to enhance program offerings.
Minimum Requirements:
Associate’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Youth Development, Education, or related field.
3-5 years of experience in recreation programming and youth engagement.
Municipal recreation experience preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Special Requirements:
Current CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of recreation department procedures and policies.
Ability to organize work around broad goals and processes.
Skilled in overseeing complex program development and staff management.
Experience with recreational management software and budget tracking.
