Description
The Recreation Specialist is responsible for the development, management, and implementation of seasonal programs and events for individuals with disabilities of all ages and ability levels. This position will oversee WSSRA’s Aquatics Programing and provide support with Inclusion services.

Requirements
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field. NCTRC (National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification) strongly preferred. Experience planning and implementing recreation programs for individuals with disabilities. Valid Illinois driver’s license. Ability to work evenings and weekend hours. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to adapt to changing environments and manage multiple responsibilities. Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check. Must have Lifeguard Certification or ability to get one within 6 mos. of hire.

1. Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
SITTING: 25 -35 hours/week (at desk, in meetings, in vehicles)
STANDING: Copy machine, meetings, presentations
TRANSPORTATION: Ability to get to and from office, programs, and events
LIFTING: Materials for presentations and events, up to 50 pounds
COMMUNICATING: Ability to use telephone, speak to groups, use a computer and e-mail
