Description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under general direction, coordinates and manages comprehensive programs, planning, and special events; administers business functions necessary for proper operation; helps to develop policies and contracts; promotes activities and facilities. Performs other related duties as required.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Manages special events and programs
  • Administers business functions and ensures proper operation
  • Develop programs and related policies
  • Promotes and publicizes programs and events
  • Responds to public inquiries, concerns, and complaints
  • Serves on various committees to promote Paducah Parks and Recreation
  • Trains seasonal staff and evaluates performance
  • Recommends discipline if needed
  • Inspects downtown beautification areas
  • Submit annual budget recommendations to the Special Events Coordinator. Work under the Special Event Coordinator to organize, plan, and implement plans, schedules, and activities for special events and the Farmer’s Market.
  • Organize materials needed for events, including assisting with purchasing supplies and equipment, setting up, taking down, and cleaning up after the event.
  • Assist with marketing and promotions for events, including the creation and distribution of programs, fliers, publications, public service announcements, and news releases.
  • Assist with maintaining social media sites under the supervision of the Special Events Coordinator.
  • Assist with the coordination of volunteers, vendors, sponsors, businesses, and community members.
  • Must be organized and be able to keep necessary records and documentation.
  • Must be able to lead and take the initiative on programs and activities under the supervision of the Special Events Coordinator.
  • Experience with data entry, Microsoft Office, and Photoshop preferred.
  • Requires working some nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Special Events Coordinator.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in special event planning, recreation, marketing, or related field, and two (2) years experience in community or group recreational activities; or any combination of training and/or experience which evidences an advanced knowledge of special event/recreation administration.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use having to fingers, handle, or feel, talk or hear, lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and drive and operate various vehicles and equipment.

In responding to critical incidents, the incumbents, the incumbent may be exposed to fire, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic substances, excessive noise, temperature extremes, and dampness/humidity. The incumbent may be exposed to possible bodily injury from falling from high, exposed places and moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, and machinery.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

Knowledge of department policies and procedures, special event planning and safety practices, and public relations. Ability to communicate with the public and prepare accurate and concise reports. Ability to carry out written and verbal instructions, establish and maintain a good working relationship with the general public and government agencies, and skills in the use of recreational and special event planning and programming. Skill in writing and preparing brochures and media news releases. Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Fifty percent of work is normally performed in a normal inside office environment with appropriate heating and cooling and is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards other than those normally associated with general public contact, dust, or odors. Field conditions outdoors are varying weather conditions, with varying street-level noises; working with the general public; and visiting locations within the community whose environment may be different from the City’s. Travel in all types of weather extremes to attend training and /or organize meetings, conferences, and workshops; must be mobile and able to visit complainants and businesses within the area.


Salary Description

$22.91 - $28.07 Hourly|$47,657 - $58,379 Annually
