Job Description - Recreation Therapy Aid

Excelsior Wellness Center, a subsidiary of Excelsior Wellness, serves a broad and diverse base of individuals and families with the primary aim of identifying goals and making positive steps toward accomplishing them. In our community, we are advocates and hold fast to the belief that children and families have the potential to be safer, stronger, and more satisfied in the lives they lead.


 


As a Recreation Therapy Aid, you will play a vital role in providing support and services to youth and families participating in our recreation therapy programs. Collaborating closely with Mental Health Professionals and Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialists, you'll assist in facilitating a diverse range of activities, including arts & crafts, sports, dance, games, cooking, music, outdoor activities, outings and more. Your contribution will be instrumental in fostering mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing among participants. By joining this dedicated team of professionals, you'll actively contribute to advancing overall wellness. This position is a regular part-time benefitted role (20 hours/week) with increased hours during spring, summer and winter breaks to support recreation therapy camps.


 


How to Qualify:



  1. Minimum High School diploma or equivalent; obtaining or currently possessing a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.

  2. Experience in planning, scheduling, and facilitating group recreational and leisure activities.

  3. Ability to obtain challenge course certification as needed to maintain and facilitate onsite challenge course activities.

  4. Ability to work with a diverse population of staff and clients.

  5. Minimum one year of experience working or volunteering directly with youth; prior experience in mental health field preferred.

  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make ethical and safe decisions.

  7. Ability to manage individual stress and perform essential job functions; safely and professionally.

  8. Must be 21 years or older

  9. Ability to pass a criminal background check, per organizational standards.

  10. Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record, per organizational standards. New employees with out-of-state licenses must obtain a Washington State Driver’s License within 30 days of employment*


Core Responsibilities Include:



  1. Follows and implements interventions per program outlines, client treatment plans or other recreational service plans, that meet clients' needs and interests.

  2. Encourages clients to acquire new skills and get involved in health-promoting leisure activities.

  3. Provides instruction to program participants.

  4. Maintains therapeutic recreation equipment and supplies as needed for activities; ensures supervisor is aware of any equipment malfunctions or needs.

  5. Assists in other areas as determined by program needs and delegated by direct supervisor.

  6. Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
