WHAT YOU’LL DO:
The Recreational Therapist is responsible for providing a safe environment for individuals while they are in treatment, facilitates groups and activities, meets with clients as needed individually, documents progress in the electronic medical record and assists/functions as part of the clinical team addressing issues, adding to treatment plans, coordinating clinical activities, and providing therapeutic services as directed. the patients by providing case management services, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy or recreation and leisure studies with specialization in therapeutic recreation from an accredited university program
- Therapeutic Recreation Certification preferred.
- Current CPR Certification or can obtain from FHE Health
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Training or can obtain from FHE Health
- Previous work in substance abuse or mental health treatment as primary therapist
Essential Job Function of the Recreational Therapist:
- Conducts assessments and interviews clients as needed.
- Designs life skill programs, leisure activities, and special programs for therapy.
- Assists therapists with clinical work as requested.
- Facilitates scheduled groups as assigned and charts accordingly.
- Meets with patients individually to provide clinical support and documents accordingly.
- Communicates pertinent data to the clinical, medical and admission teams.
- Attends supervision and other trainings as directed.
- Meets with the clinical and medical team in daily rounds.
- Assists with interventions as needed.
- Obtains needed information for documentation, records, or other needs, as directed.
- Ensures patients complete admission/ongoing/outgoing/discharge/patient satisfaction surveys, as directed.
- Adheres to HIPAA regulations and protects confidential patient information.
- Reports to work on time and ready to begin work by scheduled time.
- Strives to attain perfect attendance with no unscheduled absences/tardiness.
- Demonstrates responsiveness to patient concerns or complaints. Takes time and pays attention to patients personal and special needs.
- Exhibits cheerfulness, positivity and friendliness to co-workers, patients and visitors.
- May be required to perform other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to multitask.
- Strong assessment skills
- Previous work with addition/mental health disorders preferred.
- Knowledge of addiction and recovery preferred.
- Knowledge of CARF, DCF and Joint Commission Standards, preferred.
- Knowledge of infection control and risk management
