Job Description - Recruiting Specialist

Job Summary:


 


The Recruiting Specialist will recruit potential students by developing effective ties to high school administrators, teachers, counselors, tribal education directors, students, and parents. Assist with the execution of internal and external marketing campaigns with consistent messaging and branding of BMCC’s academic programs The position will develop and maintain an alumni relations plan. The Recruiting Specialist works within the Advancement Office and will meet academic and professional qualifications, demonstrate dedication to academic excellence and student-centered education, and will support the mission and objectives of Bay Mills Community College.



 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


 


Recruiting 



  1. Increase the total number of BMCC students with particular emphasis placed upon recruiting Native American students. 

  2. Analyzes trends in recruitment and retention programs; develop strategies for program evaluation.

  3. Identifies target populations and creates and maintains a database of prospective and current students and/or potential degree candidates, formulates program data statistical information; performs research for recruitment purposes. 

  4. Meets with prospective students and their families to provide admissions information and requirements; schedules student visits to campus departments; organizes and gives campus tours, responds to correspondence. 

  5. Survey Tribes & Education Directors on how we can better serve their needs. 

  6. Develops a schedule of visits for the twelve in-state Tribes. 

  7. Develops a schedule of events promoting the college in Chippewa county and surrounding areas to aid in recruitment efforts. 

  8. Provide community outreach and attend relevant community events including tribal education director meetings, represent the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and taskforces; promote existing and new programs and/or policies. 

  9. Connects potential students with career preference testing, career information, and guidance for program participants. 

  10. Develop effective ties to high school administrators, teachers, counselors, students and parents to increase the number of students applying to BMCC. 

  11. Develops and gives presentations that provide an overview of BMCC including the programs and resources available for students. 

  12. Collect data on student statistics from area high schools. 

  13. Provides admissions information and establishes productive relationships. 

  14. Survey high school counselors to learn how BMCC can serve their student’s educational needs. 

  15. Develop a bi-annual schedule of high school recruiting visits, including visits to local high schools and events in which counselors, students, and parents visit BMCC’s campus. 

  16. Assists the Marketing Specialist and Director of Advancement in executing recruitment-related marketing strategies, providing input on messaging and outreach efforts. 

  17. Supports the Marketing Specialist by providing recruitment-related content and insights for BMCC’s social media, particularly for campaigns, outreach, event promotions, and academic programs. 

  18. Assists in the creation and distribution of resource materials for student recruitment programs, ensuring alignment with BMCC’s outreach goals. 

  19. Works with the Marketing Specialist to coordinate recruitment-related advertising efforts, including digital, radio, newspapers, TV, and other media, and assists in gathering information for promotional materials. 

  20. Collaborates with college faculty, staff, and administration to engage them in student recruitment initiatives and ensure alignment with institutional goals.

  21. Develops, coordinates, and evaluates programs, projects, and events to promote alumni relations and educational programs designed to connect alumni through academic channels such as programs/departments/schools/colleges.  

  22. Coordinates and produces reports, proposals, and analyses for management and post-event reports and recommendations related to alumni. 

  23. Coordinate and implement alumni surveys as needed.

  24. Keep alumni addresses up to date. 

  25. Extensive communication including face-to-face, presentations, texting, calling, individual meetings, campus tours, and virtual meetings. 

  26. Professionally represent Bay Mills Community College at various educational and community events. 

  27. This position will be required to travel for recruiting, professional development, and developing relationships with local, regional, state, and national partners. 

  28. This position will have occasional weekend and evening responsibilities and commitments. 

  29. Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of the position. 


 Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  1. Knowledge of collegiate academic programs.

  2. Advanced word processing and computer skills, understanding of collegiate student and course management systems preferred. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Google Apps, and graphic design software applications such as Canva and Adobe.

  3. Excellent interpersonal skills including approachability, ability to develop relationships with prospective students & parents, ability to work collaboratively in a group setting, and ability to speak in front of groups.

  4. Highly effective verbal, written, and digital communication skills. 

  5. Time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks. Demonstrated understanding of and a commitment to the tribal college mission and purpose teaching and learning, high academic standards, and student success.


 Education & Experience:



  1. Must have a documented Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Marketing, Community Development, or related field.

  2. One to three years of experience in a similar recruiting & marketing position in a community college or tribal college setting.

  3. One to three years of professional experience demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills.

  4. Experience leading and conducting committee meetings preferred.

  5. Experience with project leadership and project execution.

  6. Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs. 

  7. Experience in working with Native Americans, in an educational setting preferred.


Physical Requirements:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit with occasional walking and standing. 



  1. Occasionally the employee must bend, reach above shoulder level, kneel, and push/pull. 

  2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  3. The employee must use hands for repetitive action such as simple and/or firm grasping. 

  4. Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.
