Reefer/Genset Mechanic

This job will have exposure to agricultural product such as wheat and soy.

Job Overview: The Reefer Mechanic is a vital member of the Reefer Operations team within RMG. The Reefer Mechanic’s primary responsibility is the maintenance and repair of reefer containers and gensets in order to keep reefer containers in working order. The Reefer operations are fast paced and require individuals to effectively communicate when working alongside heavy equipment. The Reefer Mechanic must maintain a safe yet efficient mindset when maintaining reefer containers and gensets to best assist and support with the successful onward movement of customer cargoes.

Key Job Duties:

• Mount and dismount gensets using a forklift 
• Conduct pre-trip processes including: 

Mount and dismount gensets using a forklift

Inspect the reefer and genset for damage, document findings

Washout reefers

Routinely document and communicate progress

• Asses reefer and genset damage and fix the identified problems when possible
• Complete work orders
• Track inventory 
• Assist drivers with genset fueling using FluidSecure
• Repair equipment used by the reefer department including but not limited to:

Power washers

Fuel pumps

Pickups

Forklift

Container handler

Manlift

• Monitor reefers in the yard and on the train
• Operate a manlift to plug in/out decked reefers tier 2 or higher
• Run temperature reports in Octopi

Requirements

• Highschool diploma, AA/secondary education preferred
• Safety-driven mindset
• Minimum 2 years experience in heavy equipment repairs, diesel engines, electrical motors, parts inventory, and work orders.
• Understanding of electrical systems
• Ability to read schematics
• Organizational skills
• Time Management 
• Effective communication
• Experience operating CMMS, Microsoft office 
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work in all weather conditions
• Ability to push and pull up to 80 pounds occasionally
• Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
