The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes—Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands include the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno and a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. As a Full-Time Referral Coordinator at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will work under the direct supervision of the Referral Department Manager, playing a crucial role in facilitating patient care for all Reno-Sparks Tribal Health Center patients. Your responsibilities include coordinating both internal and external referrals, processing clinical orders, obtaining insurance preauthorization, and scheduling appointments with in-network providers. You will establish strong relationships with specialty care offices and manage patient records to ensure complete and timely referrals.
Your communication skills will shine as you interact with patients, providing them with essential referral details and support throughout their healthcare journey. You will also handle transportation requests and educate patients about eligibility for the Purchase and Referred Care (PRC) Program and Tribal Medicaid FQHC referrals. This position allows you to contribute to community health while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with federal regulations, ensuring patients receive the care they need efficiently and effectively.
To excel as a Full-Time Referral Coordinator at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a diverse skill set and relevant experience. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with three years of experience in medical assistance, office referrals, or case management within a healthcare setting. Proficiency in Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) codes, as well as a strong command of medical terminology, is essential. Familiarity with insurance benefits and Purchase and Referred Program requirements will aid in streamlining referral processes. Candidates should demonstrate effective communication abilities, both orally and in writing, along with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Additionally, a sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and the needs of the Indian community is vital. Proficiency with Windows-based software, including Word, Excel, and Access, is necessary for daily operations, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
