Reports To: HVAC Superintendent

Location: Greater Phoenix, AZ. Corporate Office: 303 W Elliott Rd, Suite 101, Tempe, AZ 85284

Compensation: $35.00 - $40.00 hourly

POSITION SUMMARY

The Refrigeration Piping / Low Voltage Foreman is a supporting field leadership role within the new construction HVAC division. This is a working foreman position that leads and works hands-on alongside the self-perform refrigeration piping crew and owns the field execution of low voltage systems, equipment start-up, and commissioning support. The Foreman is the field-level owner of making the mechanical system run, and proving that it runs: refrigerant piping installed to specification, low voltage controls terminated and functional, factory and equipment start-ups completed and documented, and commissioning checklists tracked and closed out. The Foreman also coordinates and quality-checks the controls subcontractor to keep the mechanical system on schedule and functionally complete.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Refrigeration Piping (Self-Perform)

  • Lead installation of refrigerant piping systems, including brazing, pressure testing, evacuation, and charging, to specification, code, and manufacturer requirements.

  • Manage crew productivity, layout, material staging, and daily manpower loading against the project schedule.

  • Enforce clean, code-compliant, inspection-ready workmanship and correct deficiencies before they reach punchlist.

Low Voltage & Controls Support

  • Install and terminate low voltage wiring, thermostats, relays, sensors, and functional control components for HVAC equipment.

  • Verify point-to-point functionality of low voltage devices prior to start-up and commissioning.

  • Troubleshoot low voltage faults during start-up and functional testing.

Controls Subcontractor Oversight

  • Coordinate the controls subcontractor's field sequencing, access, and readiness against the mechanical schedule.

  • Quality-check controls subcontractor work for completeness and functional readiness; flag deficiencies to the Project Manager and Superintendent.

  • Coordinate, schedule, and inspect the controls subcontractor in the field; route all scope direction, contractual instruction, and change-generating decisions through the Project Manager.

Equipment & Factory Start-Up

  • Perform and lead equipment start-ups and verify systems operate to design and manufacturer specifications.

  • Schedule, host, and oversee manufacturer and factory start-up technicians; confirm all pre-start prerequisites are complete before the factory representative arrives.

  • Capture and resolve start-up deficiencies before turnover.

Commissioning

  • Own the field commissioning process for assigned scope, including building and tracking commissioning checklists, schedules, and functional test readiness.

  • Complete and maintain commissioning documentation in Facility Grid and other required software, keeping status current and defensible.

  • Serve as the field point of contact for the commissioning agent, general contractor, and owner's representative on functional performance items.

Documentation, Field Leadership & Safety

  • Submit accurate and timely daily field reports; maintain start-up records, test reports, and commissioning logs for the turnover package.

  • Set the pace, quality standard, and safety expectation for the crew; participate in daily safety huddles and hazard analysis.

  • Enforce Tempe Mechanical safety policies and maintain compliance with EPA, OSHA, and local regulations.

  • Support scheduling, look-ahead planning, and coordination with other trades and the general contractor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journeyman-level refrigeration and HVAC piping experience on commercial projects.

  • EPA Section 608 Universal certification (refrigerant handling) - required.

  • Demonstrated brazing proficiency.

  • Working knowledge of low voltage HVAC controls, thermostats, relays, and sensor wiring.

  • Ability to read and execute mechanical drawings, control diagrams, and equipment submittals.

  • Valid Arizona driver's license and clean driving record.
