Regional Controller

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides financial leadership and oversight for multiple divisions, branches, or operating locations within an assigned region, ensuring the ongoing fiscal health and operational effectiveness of the business.
  • Leads, develops, and manages regional accounting and finance teams, including local controllers, accounting managers, and support staff.
  • Oversees the timely preparation and review of monthly financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow reporting, work-in-progress (WIP), inventory, accounts receivable, and other key financial metrics across the region.
  • Directs the regional month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with corporate deadlines and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinates the development, consolidation, and management of annual operating budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans for all assigned business units.
  • Analyzes regional financial performance, identifies trends and risks, and provides recommendations to executive leadership to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Ensures timely review, approval, and reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Directs the preparation and submission of all required financial reports, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company policies.
  • Investigates financial discrepancies, operational variances, and reporting issues, ensuring timely resolution and corrective action.
  • Partners with regional and corporate leadership to support strategic business decisions through financial analysis, modeling, and performance reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and accounting standards.
  • Promotes consistency in accounting policies, procedures, controls, and reporting practices across all locations within the region.
  • Provides ongoing supervision, mentoring, coaching, and professional development for assigned team members to drive performance and succession planning.
  • Establishes performance objectives, conducts performance evaluations, and develops corrective action plans when necessary.
  • Oversees recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention of accounting and finance personnel within the region.
  • Collaborates with operations, sales, human resources, and other functional leaders to resolve business issues and support company initiatives.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement, automation, standardization, and operational efficiencies throughout the region.
  • Provides regular financial updates, performance analyses, and recommendations to senior leadership and executive management.
  • Ensures all direct reports and locations maintain compliance with company safety policies and promote a culture of safety.
  • Travels to regional locations as necessary to support operations, conduct reviews, and strengthen business partnerships.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Duties may vary by location and business unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. Education may be substituted for experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including multi-location or multi-entity financial management.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience managing accounting or finance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and GAAP.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines across a geographically dispersed organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to travel periodically within the assigned region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience in a multi-site, manufacturing, distribution, retail, service, or construction-related environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting platforms.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment with periodic travel to regional locations.

  • Hybrid work arrangements may be available based on business needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds necessary to perform job duties.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers and telephones.
  • Ability to enter and review data using a keyboard and computer monitor.
  • Must possess sufficient visual acuity, with or without correction, to perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to communicate information effectively through verbal and written means.
