Job Description - Regional Director of ASC Operations
The Regional Director of Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) Operations at USOP (U.S. Orthopaedic Partners) is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic and financial performance, clinical quality, and operational efficiency of a portfolio of Ambulatory Surgery Centers within the region of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. This role involves partnering with physicians and local leadership to drive growth and operational excellence. 50% required travel to AL, MS, LA locations.
This role oversees the day-to-day administrative operations of the Surgery Centers, including, but not limited to the Quality Improvement Program and accreditation readiness. The Director collaborates with the Director of Nursing to develop, implement, and maintain advanced accreditation and leads performance improvement and risk management programs. The position requires strong expertise in outcomes measurement, project management, and operational oversight.
The Director supports the organization’s mission by planning, evaluating, and advancing company-wide performance improvement, survey readiness, and risk prevention initiatives. This role ensures appropriate utilization of surgery center resources while maintaining high standards of patient care and works closely with medical staff, the research team, and leadership to achieve process improvement and value-based care goals, including advanced accreditation in joints and spine.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight: Managing day-to-day operations and ensuring the success of multiple ASCs in a market. We have 3 De Novo ASC’s coming online in the next 12 – 16 months that will require direct oversight and management.
Financial Accountability: Holding full Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability, including developing budgets, monitoring financial data, and improving profitability
Physician Partnership & Growth: Building relationships with physician partners, fostering business development, and supporting "build vs. buy" opportunities for new ASCs or service lines
Strategic Planning: Defining and executing strategic initiatives to improve the cost of care and expand services
Performance Metrics: Driving KPI metrics for revenue cycle management and clinical quality standards
Leadership: Mentoring local center leaders and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
Essential Functions:
Responsible for overall project management of quality strategic initiatives
Oversee and or administer the bundle payment process with strategic partner providers
Manages grievance process, including working with patients and families, and meeting the regulatory requirements
Executes deployment strategies to obtain identified value realization and alignment with organization and system-wide strategies
Presents a comprehensive view of the organization’s quality outcomes profile, process and outcome trends, and effectiveness of design strategies and works directly with leadership to improve outcomes
Ability to view quality from a strategic and data driven view encompassing all potential touch points and stakeholders within and external to the organization
Performs in depth analysis of quality related programs and initiatives to include budget creation and ROI for each program
Provide oversight of operational execution to enhance profitability and efficiency of the quality related initiatives
Uses a data driven approach along with input from key stakeholders to determine measures of project goals and success
Identifies/develops tools and analytics for ongoing measurement and rapid cycle change as well as a sustainability plan
Responsible for managing projects in accordance with project management principles, including identifying and managing dependencies and critical paths, and completing tasks outlined in the project plan.
Sets and manages expectations with team members and stakeholders; delegates tasks appropriately; and identifies and resolves project issues and conflicts in collaboration with department leadership
Assists in development, maintenance, and archival of documentation of all initiatives from start through continued improvement and maintenance as each quality initiative grows and is enhanced
Designs approach, planning, and identifying sequencing resources, training education and consistent communications throughout the organization
Assists leaders in understanding, researching, and incorporating background knowledge for quality initiatives and strategies
Assists leaders with effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of departmental and interdepartmental operations
Help with creation of documentation and presentation material for committee or board level presentations
Qualifications
Experience
A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive career experience, ideally within the healthcare industry.
Experience implementing quality improvement programs that are proactive and progressive
Understanding and experience with operational, IT and data analytics-based performance improvements projects
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
CPHQ - Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality preferred
Skills
Strong financial acumen with knowledge of capital funding and contracts
Demonstrates ability to build partnerships with physicians
Skillset of analyzing data effectively, design dashboards, and present meaningful information to formulate strategies
Exhibit attributes to listen and understand as well as professionalism, compassion, and high emotional intelligence
Computer software skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. *Knowledgeable in the application of statistical data.
Communicates in a clear, concise, and professional manner with various audiences.
Understands and appreciates the sensitive and confidential nature of performance improvement activities.
Prefer knowledge of AAAHC standards, PFI tools, and statistical analysis
