About the role: The individual assigned to this position is responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant and efficient operation of the hydroelectric power projects located in the Southern New York and New Jersey (SNY/NJ) Region. Currently, the SNY/NJ Region consists of three FERC-Licensed hydroelectric power projects located on the Mongaup River in Sullivan and Orange Counties New York as well as the Great Falls Hydroelectric Generation Station located in Paterson, New Jersey.

What you’ll do:
Oversee all operational activities at assigned projects/plants, including (but not limited to);
Management of all reservoir elevations
Minimum flow requirements
Instrumentation readings
Recreation activities
Security at dams, powerhouses and all project appurtenances
Record keeping
Contractor safety
Personnel safety
Vehicle safety
NYISO liaison, bidding and market management at the Mongaup River System
PJM liaison, bidding and market management at the Great Falls Hydroelectric
Employee supervision, scheduling and performance evaluations
Participate in all federal, state and local regulatory activities at assigned projects/plants, including (but not limited to);
Dam Safety Surveillance Monitoring Program
Annual FERC Dam Inspections
EAP verification and functional exercises
Public Safety Plans
Annual Gate Certifications
Dam Safety Training
Support relicensing efforts
PFMA meeting participation
Downstream assessments
Water quality tests and reports
Participate in all federal, state and local environmental activities at the assigned projects/plants, including (but not limited to);
Fish way operations
Wildlife management
Water Quality certifications
SPCC compliance
Work closely with federal and/or state environmental agencies
LIHI certifications (if required)
Administrative duties:
Assist the Mid Atlantic Division Manager (OPS) in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Assist in the preparation and management of the facility budgets.
Provide a safe work environment for all employees.
Qualify in and maintain qualifications for all facility-designated operating watch-standing positions within the area of coverage.
Maintain security at the main powerhouse, all outlying buildings, grounds and all other related structures.
Maintain and enforce all local, state and federal environmental permits and
regulatory requirements.
Comply with company standards, practices and policies.
Provide accurate operational and maintenance records as required.
Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed in a timely, efficient manner.
Respond to emergency situations, when necessary
Respond to plant callouts when required.
Must be proficient in the use of personal computers, specifically in the use of word
processing, spreadsheets, data collection and database software.
Perform other collateral duties as assigned.
Organizational Relationships:
Report directly to the Mid-Atlantic Division Manager
At times the Regional Operator may have to provide support to the Regulatory Manager as well as the Executive VP of Operations
Report all dam safety related incidents to the Northeast Division Manager, Chief Dam Safety Engineer and the appropriate Army Corps of Engineers’ designee (as required)
What you’ll need:
A minimum of an associate degree in a technical or engineering discipline, or equivalent job experience
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, experience in hydro, steam and/or gas turbine power plant operations is preferred
Experienced in the use of personal computers
Be familiar with OSHA requirements and have completed OSHA 10-hour course (or will be completed upon successful employment)
Demonstrated ability to read and understand P&IDs
Ability to understand complex issues as they relate to plant operations
Ability to work extended hours, if required
The ability to work well with others in a fast paced, challenging environment
Physical Requirements:
A minimum of an associate degree in a technical or engineering discipline or equivalent
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, experience in hydro, steam and/or gas turbine power plant operations is preferred.
Experienced in the use of personal computers.
Must be able to read and understand single and three electrical drawings.
Must demonstrate the ability to read and understand P&IDs
Must possess a thorough understanding of 3-phase power generation.
Must possess an understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
Ability to understand complex issues as they relate to plant operations.
Ability to work extended hours, when required.
Must be capable of performing maintenance duties in outdoor situations.
Ability to perform operational tasks. Operational tasks may include:
The ability to distinguish between colors.
The ability to climb ladders and to be at heights of 80 -100 feet.
The ability and dexterity to manipulate various size components from valves
to small electrical switches to computer keyboards.
The ability to perform chemical sampling procedures.
The ability to "handle" quickly changing situations under stress.
