Scope of the Role

The Regional Sales Engineer (RSE) for the Tait LifeX Console Product offering plays a key role in the successful design and implementation of the Tait LifeX communication solutions, as well as providing technical training for Tait's respective Customers and/or Channel Partners. The RSE participates primarily in a pre-sales technical support capacity, providing system design guidance and technical expertise during the sales cycle. The RSE may from time to time be tasked with supporting customer and/or Channel Partner RFP responses, detailed designs, presentation support, quote generation and Tait pre-sales technical product training to Tait's Channel Partners.

As a secondary role, the RSE may be called upon to provide post sale detailed technical and/or product end-user training on behalf of Tait and/or it's Channel Partners. This may include but is not limited to leading and delivering Tait LifeX product training during the Tait system implementation process, providing guidance on configuration or programming best practices, or providing other technical oversight and guidance with/to Tait's Channel Partners as directed.

The Tait RSE is a primary technical interface between Tait's customer, Tait's Channel Partners and the Tait organization. Knowledge of commercial issues, technical requirements and the sales process is also required. It is critical that the customer perceives Tait to be a responsive, innovative, competent, and professional organization. How the RSE behaves and communicates with the customer and Channel Partner will drive a large part of that perception.

It is expected that the role will involve anywhere from 35% - 45% travel.

The RSE will be expected to continue to acquire skills and knowledge through both training and experience in some of the following areas:

The RSE will be proactive in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to provide top quality customer support. This will be supported by Tait in the form of specialized training and support from our strategic partner Frequentis, as well as Tait in New Zealand.

Frequent and extended periods of travel are a requirement for this job.

Functional Outcomes

Main Work Areas

  • Regional Sales Engineering provides daily support to the Regional Sales Manager responding to technical inquiries, investigating console product functional application and validation, conducting quote development, providing channel partner and/or end customer assistance in development of the LifeX console solution, delivering technical training and supporting the technical responses to bids and tenders.
  • Regional Sales Engineers will assist in the creation of technical specification templates to be used for influencing bid tenders, inclusive of creating value proposition and messaging.
  • Regional Sales Engineers will engage third party partner vendors supporting application integration, testing and attending training for products that enhance Tait's LifeX console offering.

Main Tasks

  • Interact with customers (inclusive of Dealers and Distributors as applicable) and staff in a positive and professional manner and taking into account our values of commitment to listen, courage to act and integrity to deliver what we promise.
  • Provide customers confidence about Tait's technical competence and responsiveness.
  • Ensure that any commitments made to the customer are achievable within the committed timeframe and cost.
  • Provision of technical advice to customers, dealers, distributors and regional sales managers on possible applications and constraints of Tait LifeX products and solutions.
  • Detailed system design including:
  1. Console System Design
  2. Console System communication interfaces and Integration
  3. Console System Feature Compatibility and Compliance
  4. System Resiliency, Failover and Availability
  5. Multimedia application integration
  6. Design of Grounding Systems
  7. Integration, Selection and Qualification of OEM Components
  8. Collection of vendor quotes and assembling and producing of quotes to customers
  9. Design of Acceptance Test Plans
  10. Development of Functional Requirements Specifications
  11. Supervision of Execution of Acceptance Test Plans
  • Promote sales by designing system configurations, applications and modifications that make Tait LifeX console product more applicable to the specific requirements of the market.
  • Secondary Tasks:
    • Project Engineering
  1. Represents Tait as the lead engineer on projects interacting with the Channel Partner, Customer and/or their engineering consultant.
  2. Produces or supports the creation of Detailed Design Specifications for the project.
  3. Responsible for day to day technical and engineering decisions.
  4. Provides engineering oversight of the implementation, commissioning and acceptance testing of the solution.
    • Provide sales and technical training to indirect channel partners and/or their customers.
    • Provide support for Trade Shows as required.

  • All system designs meet the defined customer and contract requirements.
  • All system designs are thoroughly checked for feasibility and suitability.
  • Customer is satisfied with assistance given to all inquiries, and understands the potential limitations of the solution proposed.
  • System build, configuration and test documentation enables the project to be implemented with a minimum of revisions and clarifications.
  • System designs are achievable from timing and cost perspective.

  • Mentor co-workers to develop broad cross-functional skills.
  • Ensure that the company's legal obligations are met (e.g. Health and Safety, Human Rights, Compliance, etc.)

  • Support a continuous quality improvement culture and process (Eg. participating in Post Event Reviews, both internally and with the customer).
Person Specification

Experience Requirements

  • At least 5 years in a technical Sales Engineering role or similar technical role supporting voice dispatch consoles or other communication console application/s.
  • At least 5 years working with and supporting the integration of third party applications.

Skills Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Attention to detail; making sure issues do not get dropped.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • System design skills that include propagation design and analysis, traffic design and analysis, specification and selection of antenna, transmission and combining equipment, specification and selection of various linking mediums and the analysis of the affect of system components on the overall performance of a network..
  • Analogue and Digital design.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Good knowledge of telecommunications networks (VoIP, SIP, UDP/RTP, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of LMR technologies and practices.
  • Good knowledge of data communications technologies and practices, IP networking.
  • Detailed knowledge of console operation, feature sets and configuration (may be obtained through training).
  • Detailed knowledge of the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Visio with macros.
