Job Summary

This position performs the following in an accurate and timely manner: gathers pre-treatment patient data, monitors patient and medications during procedures, maintains prescription drug logs and provides assistance to the clinical team during pre- and post-procedure activities. Demonstrates effective customer service skills and a professional manner. Adheres to practice mission and values and applicable regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.

  • Provide ongoing patient information to the interventionists and clinical team during procedures to deliver vascular access care to the patient, including but not limited to cardiac monitoring, Aldrete score, pain status
  • Monitor patient vitals (HR, BP, O2Sat, EKG) during procedures
  • Maintain radiation safety when C-Arm is in use in the procedure room
  • Assist in procedure room preparation; maintain sterile techniques in the procedure room; assist with pre-and post-procedures, including assessment of discharge
  • Assist in recovery room patient care following vascular access procedures
  • Monitor and record use of all medications during procedures
  • Gather patient clinical information prior to procedures, including patient assessments and patient history
  • Keep clear and accurate patient medical records
  • Maintain up-to-date narcotic log
  • Serve as surgical technologist during procedures as necessary
  • Assist Center Manager in maintaining inventory count
  • Communicate with dialysis facilities to monitor post-care as directed by Center Manager
  • Observe all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and radiation safety monitoring policies
  • Assist in moving patients within the center
  • Assist in scheduling patients as directed by the Center Manager
  • Answers the phone using a welcoming tone and effective customer service skills
  • Participate in access center community education programs
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of practice

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(Education, licenses, certification and experience required to fulfill the essential duties, including computer skills as required)

  • A.D.N. degree from accredited school of nursing required; B.S.N. preferred; three-year diploma from accredited diploma program may be substituted for nursing degree
  • Current RN license in state of practice required
  • Minimum of two years of clinical RN experience in dialysis, OR, PACU, ED, or critical care required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Outlook required; proficiency in all VSA’s computer applications required within 60 days of hire

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Ability to read, speak and write English with clarity of expression sufficient to communicate technical and complex concepts to teammates, patients and patient’s family members in clear understandable terms required
  • Ability to understand clinical/medical vocabulary written or spoken in English required

VISION REQUIREMENTS:

Vision adequate to perform essential and responsibilities of position

  • Ability to pass color vision test if applicable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical requirements can vary. In general, the position requires the following physical activities:

  • Ability to lift minimum of 5 pounds to a maximum 35 pounds unassisted and able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, lifting and use full range body motions required to lift patients, wear lead apron and lift supplies
