Registered Nurse

Position Summary: Provide comprehensive preventative and therapeutic nursing care, including counseling and teaching to clients of all ages in the ambulatory health care setting. It also may include, on an intermittent basis, assisting with providing guidance and technical assistance for other nursing personnel, and assisting with nursing clinic management.

Position responsibilities:

• Obtains a preliminary health history, makes a physical assessment, recognizing the range of “normal” and the manifestations of common abnormalities, provides necessary nursing care, or makes appropriate referrals to other health care team members.
• Documents in the patient’s health record observations, assessments, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures provided, and referrals for follow-up care.
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects and complications of their use.
• Knowledge and skill in operation of specialized medical equipment.
• Functioning under established routine and medical protocols, orders x-ray and laboratory tests, diagnostic procedures, consultation services, etc. Interprets selected laboratory findings and as appropriate, initiates action for necessary care. Knowledge of adverse signs and symptoms and ability to react swiftly in emergency situations.
• Assist physicians with diagnostic therapeutics and surgical procedures. Administers oral and parental medications. Operates a variety of medical equipment, and ensures that equipment is in working order. Initiates appropriate treatments such as wound care and immunizations.
• Promotes continuity of care by providing relevant health care instructions, patient education, and referrals for follow-up care, arranging for appointments and collaborating with other agencies involved in health care. Documents all actions in the patient’s health record.
• Other duties as assigned.

Essential skills and experience:

• Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing.
• Current Oklahoma or Compact State License.
• Three to Five years of Nursing experience.
• Leadership: demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
• Management: ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Nursing.
• Experience supervising a team.

• Physical Demands: While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 100 pounds.
• Work Environment: Work is performed in an ambulatory health care setting. There is common exposure to contagious and infectious diseases. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, families and visitors.
