Registered Nurse -Addiction Specialist (Outpatient)

Position Overview:  Addiction Specialist RN

As an Addiction Specialist RN, you’ll play a critical role in the assessment, treatment, and support of individuals navigating substance use recovery. You’ll educate patients and families, administer medications, offer emotional and clinical support, and partner with interdisciplinary teams to deliver holistic care.

This position requires strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills to support patients on their recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Clinical Support

• Conduct nursing intake assessments and collaborate with providers to create individualized care plans.


• Monitor withdrawal symptoms using COWS and CIWA scales


• Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate appropriate services.

Medication Management

• Dispense prescribed medications and ensure accurate documentation.


• Conduct medication counts and resolve discrepancies.


• Coordinate pharmacy orders and obtain prior authorizations when needed.

Testing & Documentation

• Administer urine drug screens, breathalyzer tests, and other diagnostics.


• Maintain accurate, timely documentation for all nursing services.

Patient Education & Case Support

• Provide one-on-one nursing visits and health education (nutrition, hygiene, medication management).


• Offer crisis intervention and assist with referrals to higher levels of care.

Team Collaboration

• Participate in interdisciplinary care coordination meetings.


• Run OARRS reports and collaborate with prescribers on controlled substances.


• Attend staff meetings and complete CPI, Narcan, and other required trainings.

Compliance & Safety

• Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and confidentiality standards.


• Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming medical environment.


• Complete annual clinical competencies and support efficient clinic operations.

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license in the state of Ohio.


• Strong knowledge of addiction treatment protocols and ASAM criteria.


• Experience in crisis intervention and emergency response (preferred).


• Excellent communication, clinical documentation, and decision-making skills.

Schedule

 Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (40 hours/week)

• Any controlled substances found in screening must be supported by a valid prescription.
