Cetechs is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse – Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CDI Nursing Advisor) to join our team at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN. This full-time, onsite position will play a vital role in advancing the Veterans Health Administration's Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) program. The CDI Nursing Advisor collaborates closely with physicians, healthcare staff, and coding professionals to ensure medical documentation is accurate, thorough, and compliant—improving both patient care and clinical outcomes.
Serve as the Registered Nurse Advisor for the facility’s CDI program, supporting both inpatient and outpatient documentation integrity.
Use clinical expertise and critical thinking skills to review health records concurrently for potential improvements and coding accuracy.
Support CDI efforts by applying the nursing process to data gathered by the CDI team; identify and communicate trends, validations, and opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers through written, verbal, or electronic queries for clinical clarification.
Develop, implement, and continually improve the facility’s CDI management program—creating charters, SOPs, workflows, and tracking turnaround times.
Focus on updating problem lists and SNOMED-CT within the ICD-10-CM framework.
Perform both concurrent and retrospective health record reviews, identifying clinical questions and potential documentation query opportunities.
Develop and deliver educational programs and training for clinical staff to enhance documentation standards and techniques.
Provide ongoing support and education to clinical staff, patients, and families throughout the continuum of care.
Prepare and submit regular reports (weekly, bi-monthly, and monthly)
Maintain and report performance metrics aligned with VHA requirements.
Participate actively in collaborative meetings and contribute to ongoing CDI program initiatives.
U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Public Trust government security clearance.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN license in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a CDI Specialist in a hospital setting.
Certification from one or more of the following: AHIMA, AAPC, and/or ACDIS.
In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10-CM, MS-DRG coding, anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and prevalent treatment protocols.
Experience with electronic health record systems; familiarity with VistA/CPRS strongly preferred.
Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and standards from The Joint Commission, CMS, and VHA.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, full-time (40 hours/week)
Work Location: Onsite at Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center, Memphis, TN
