Job Description - Registered Nurse ER

Position Summary: Under the direction of the CNO, Emergency Nursing Director:and charge nurses, this position encompasses the provision and management of patient care through implementation of the nursing process, delegation to and supervision of licensed and unlicensed personnel, and coordination of interdisciplinary care.

Minimum Qualifications:License & CertificationsCurrent unencumbered Arizona Registered Nursing LicenseCurrent BLS certificationSuccessful completion of arrhythmia course within 6 months from date of hireACLS Certification within 6 months from date of hirePALS Certification within 6 months from date of hireTNCC within 1 year from date of hireExperience:Experience in acute/critical care experience preferred, but not requiredKnowledge and SkillsAble to communicate effectively in English both orally and writtenAble to work and multitask in fast paced environmentAble to manage, prioritize, and delegate patient care appropriately and effectivelyDemonstrates knowledge of common disease processes, treatment modalities, and interventionsVerbalizes knowledge of safe and accurate medication administration principles6-RightsRight patient, medication, dose, route, time, reasonTwo patient identifiesPatient allergiesPatient EducationDemonstrates ability interpret cardiac rhythms and their implicationsAbove average computer skillsDemonstrates ability to navigate the electronic healthcare recordFamiliar with Microsoft word and excel

Essential Job Functions:Provides patient care utilizing the nursing process to address the needs medical and nursing needs.AssessmentDiagnosisPlanImplementEvaluateProvides age specific and culturally appropriate care.Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and how to incorporate these into the patients careDemonstrates cultural competence and how to provide culturally appropriate carePerforms complete and accurate data entry into the electronic healthcare record according to hospital and departmental policies.Documents patient care in the appropriate template/categoryAddresses patient needs within the Electronic health recordAssessments, procedures, and nursing notes in appropriate locationThrough collaboration with the healthcare team, keeps providers aware of patient status including assessment findings and response to interventions, as well as results of diagnostic or point of care tests.Keeps patients, families, and/or significant others informed of plan of care and progress through their Emergency Department stay.Maintains clinical competencies through attendance/completion of mandatory education and demonstrates these in practice.Provides holistic care through proactive and timely implementation of ordered medical, as well as nursing, interventions to provide and promote patient wellness.Provides understandable education to patients, families, and/or significant others, and verifies understanding or abilities through restatement or return demonstration.Effective stewardship; ensure complete and accurate timekeeping, as well as appropriate and effective utilization of supplies and equipment.Participates in hospital and departmental Quality Assessment Process Improvement activities and identifies service improvement opportunities.Actively models, promotes, and implements management’s visions and philosophies through collaboration with coworkers and management team.Actively models and promotes through words and actions professionalism, high ethical standards, customer service, and adherence to hospital and departmental policies and protocols.
