Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery

Support Mothers and Newborns in a Mission-Driven Setting

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive, patient-centered care throughout labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period
• Monitor fetal heart tones and maternal vital signs using advanced intrapartum monitoring equipment
• Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, midwives, and neonatal teams
• Respond to obstetric emergencies and participate in drills and simulations
• Maintain meticulous documentation and ensure compliance with facility protocols
• Participate in ongoing clinical education and training initiatives

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE-accredited nursing program
• Experience:
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an inpatient labor and delivery setting within the last 2 years
• Licensure:
  • Active, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state or territory
• Certifications (Required):
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association only
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring – from AWHONN
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • STABLE Certification (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, Emotional Support)
• Certifications (To Be Completed):
  • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) or Emergencies in Clinical Obstetrics (ECO)
    • Required within 180 days of start; training available at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center

Additional Expectations:

• Participation in high-fidelity simulation training and clinical drills led by the unit nurse educator and simulation center
• Ongoing development to support patient safety and medical readiness in a dynamic labor & delivery unit
