Job Summary

The Manager of the Medical-Surgical Department is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality patient care within the unit. This includes evaluating clinical performance, advising leadership on patient care operations, budget planning, and quality improvement initiatives. The role also involves anticipating departmental needs and implementing strategies to continuously improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate advanced clinical expertise and provide guidance to ensure quality care delivery
• Lead and manage staff effectively through strong interpersonal, supervisory, and organizational skills
• Plan and allocate personnel resources in a cost-effective and productive manner
• Apply the nursing process in clinical decision-making and patient care planning
• Actively participate in department-based quality improvement efforts
• Promote a safe, efficient, and patient-centered care environment
• Deliver exceptional customer service in all professional interactions
• Advocate for patient rights, ensuring confidentiality and respect for privacy
• Develop and implement age-appropriate patient care and education plans based on comprehensive assessments
• Monitor and document patient responses, and act promptly to any physiological or psychosocial changes
• Seek opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining high standards of care and safety
• Utilize the occurrence reporting system to address and report patient safety concerns
• Comply with protocols for reporting medical errors or unexpected care outcomes
• Attend and complete all required in-service training and educational sessions
• Apply performance improvement plans to enhance patient safety and care quality
• Maintain punctual, reliable, and consistent attendance
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Licensure/Certification (required within 30 days of hire):
  Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), BCLS Instructor, or Licensed Practical Nurse with IV Certification (LPN IV)
• Professional License:
  Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Nurse Practitioner (APRN)
• Education:
  Registered Nurse Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
