Pay Range: $32.94–$49.38 per hour
Night Differential: +$4.00 per hour
Weekend Differential: +$3.25 per hour
Sign-On Bonus: $20,000 with a two-year commitment

Job Overview

A leading healthcare organization is seeking experienced Registered Nurse Obstetrics to join its Women's Services team in Danville, Illinois.

The RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, antepartum care, gynecologic surgical care, and newborn care. This position requires strong maternal-fetal assessment skills, the ability to respond to obstetric emergencies, and a commitment to providing safe, compassionate care to mothers and newborns.

Candidates must have at least one year of recent OB or Labor & Delivery nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients during labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum
  • Assess maternal and fetal status and recognize changes requiring intervention
  • Monitor fetal heart rate patterns and uterine activity
  • Provide care to antepartum and triage patients
  • Assist physicians and providers during vaginal deliveries and obstetric procedures
  • Support Cesarean section procedures in the unit's operating rooms
  • Provide postpartum nursing care and education to mothers and families
  • Assess and care for newborns following delivery
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments according to physician orders and established protocols
  • Respond appropriately to obstetric and neonatal emergencies
  • Educate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and discharge instructions
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesia providers, pediatric providers, nursing staff, and other interdisciplinary team members
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and maternal-newborn care standards
  • Maintain required fetal monitoring competencies
  • Provide care according to established AWHONN staffing and patient-ratio guidelines
  • Perform other nursing responsibilities within scope of practice as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse license
  • Minimum of one year of OB or Labor & Delivery nursing experience
  • Current Basic Life Support certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification
  • Fetal monitoring competency maintained at least every two years
  • Strong maternal and fetal assessment skills
  • Ability to recognize and respond to obstetric emergencies
  • Strong communication, critical-thinking, and clinical decision-making skills
  • Ability to work 12-hour night shifts

Preferred

  • AWHONN fetal monitoring education or certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification
  • Experience caring for antepartum, postpartum, and mother-baby patients
  • Experience assisting with Cesarean section procedures
  • Experience caring for gynecologic surgical patients
  • Previous experience in a combined OB/L&D department

Department Information

The Women's Services department includes:

  • 5 Labor & Delivery beds
  • 2 operating rooms for Cesarean sections
  • 1 Labor & Delivery triage bed
  • 3 single postpartum rooms
  • 4 double postpartum rooms, typically utilized as single-patient rooms with space for a support person
  • Approximately 250 births annually

Patient populations include:

  • Labor and delivery
  • Antepartum
  • Postpartum
  • Mother-Baby
  • Newborns
  • Gynecologic surgical patients

Typical staffing follows AWHONN guidelines:

  • Active Labor: Approximately 1:1
  • Antepartum / Triage / Early Labor: Up to 1:3
  • Mother-Baby: Up to 1:6
