Job Summary

  

As a leader of the therapeutic care team, the Registered Nurse (RN) will provide direct care for clients in residential substance use behavioral health facilities. The RN will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to include clinicians, case managers, behavioral health technicians, and internal and external health care professionals to coordinate, plan and deliver excellent patient care using a multidisciplinary patient-centered approach. 

***Full time Day and Overnight Shifts Available.***

Duties/Responsibilities

  

• Provide high quality, compassionate care to monitor ethical substance abuse, pain management, and suicide screening to clients as scheduled in a group setting. 

• Assess and monitor patients’ physical and psychological signs and symptoms of withdrawal from mood-altering chemicals. 

• Provide Assistance in the Self- Administration of Medications as prescribed and provide education to the client as appropriate.

• Train staff on processes such as Assistance in the Self-Administration of Medications and Naloxone/Narcan. 

• Obtains and documents nursing history from clients and/or significant others that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems. 

• Performs basic assessment of clients, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Records vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more-specific investigations as needed. Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan. 

• Follows Physician orders for client care for admissions, medication administration, treatment protocols and discharge. 

• Provides quality care assurance, following state and nursing guidelines and standards and Infection Control Protocols. 

• Monitors patient progress and vitals based on treatment protocols to ensure patient progress and safety and charting client care in patient and department charts in EMR system. 

• Participates in handoff report meetings at beginning and end of shift for continuity of care and effective communication. 

• Responsible for accurate and timely communication of all Nursing and Medical supply needs. 

• Addresses the physical effects of addiction and administers treatments to ease the symptoms so clients can concentrate on breaking their addictions. 

• Plays a teaching role in addition to providing physical care. Teaches Patients about the dangers of drug abuse, including the physical and psychological effects; the damage to relationships and family life; and the impact on meeting basic needs such as holding down a job. 

• As part of the interdisciplinary team educates clients regarding treatment options, including those they can use on either an inpatient or outpatient basis, and those they can use to stay drug-free long-term. 

• Provides advocacy as needed to ensure client knows and understands their rights and ensures patient informed consent. 

• Supervises care given by BHT staff and provides instruction as needed. 

• Understands client care goals as voiced by the client, making the client a major part of client’s treatment and recovery. 

• Supports nursing care standards through adherence to existing policies and procedures. 

• Participates in peer review as appropriate. 

• Completes audits of EMAR.

• Assumes responsibility for professional growth by current reading and attendance at educational programs and conferences. 

• Ensure medications are always stocked by completing inventory regularly.

• Promotes inclusion through Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services Standards (CLAS).   

• Perform other duties as assigned by management. 

  

Physical Requirements: 

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 

• Prolonged periods of standing. 

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

• Experience in working with diverse populations and socioeconomic backgrounds.

• Experience with working with Native American population preferred. 

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. 

Required Competencies: 

• Able to actively and effectively participate in patient rounds. 

• Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with coworkers regarding the medical and psychological stability and general risk level of patients. 

• Vital Signs - Demonstrates knowledge and ability to properly check vital signs: Accu-Check & safe parameters, blood alcohol levels (BAL), blood pressure parameters, pulse, respiration, temperature, conversation with patient. 

• Demonstrates knowledge and able to properly review UA/ Pregnancy test results. 

• Performs Chart Checks – reviewing MAR, orders, labs, UA,s for accuracy and confirm that all task are completed. 

  

Education and Experience 

• Current RN license to practice nursing in the state of Arizona. 

• Current CPR certification 

• Fingerprint Clearance Card 

• Negative TB Test results within the last 12 months.

• Crisis Prevention Intervention CPI 

• Experience working with diverse populations and socioeconomic backgrounds.  

• Experience working with Native American population preferred.  

• Substance use residential behavioral health experience 1 year (preferred) 

• Substance Use experience 1 year (preferred)
