Job Description - Registered Nurse- Special Procedures
Job Summary: The RN in Special Procedures is responsible for providing nursing care and support during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency, critical thinking, and effective communication to ensure the safety and well-being of patients undergoing special procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Procedure Assessment:
Conduct thorough assessments of patients scheduled for special procedures, including reviewing medical histories, allergies, and current medications. Verify and confirm the procedure orders, ensuring patient readiness and understanding. Patient Education:
Educate patients and their families about the upcoming special procedure, including the purpose, potential risks, benefits, and post-procedure care instructions. Address patient questions and concerns, providing emotional support as needed. Technical Support:
Collaborate with the healthcare team to prepare and set up equipment and supplies needed for special procedures. Assist physicians and other healthcare providers during procedures, ensuring a sterile and safe environment. Monitoring and Documentation:
Monitor patients closely during procedures, assessing vital signs and responding promptly to any changes or complications. Accurately document all aspects of patient care, including pre-procedure assessments, intra-procedure events, and post-procedure outcomes. Post-Procedure Care:
Provide post-procedure care and monitoring, ensuring patients recover safely from the effects of anesthesia or sedation. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to manage post-procedure complications or adverse reactions. Quality Assurance:
Adhere to established protocols, standards, and policies related to special procedures. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and departmental efficiency. Qualifications:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Specialized training or certification in the area of Special Procedures (if required by the facility). Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols. Knowledge of relevant medical equipment and technologies. Working Conditions: The RN in Special Procedures may work in a variety of settings, including procedure rooms, operating rooms, or imaging suites. The role may involve standing for extended periods, lifting or moving patients, and exposure to radiation or infectious agents, depending on the nature of the procedures.
