*Unit Description:*

The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute is one of 54 cancer centers designated as a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute. With 16 locations throughout Michigan and Ohio and proudly a part of McLaren Health Care, Karmanos is the largest provider of cancer care and research in Michigan.

The Surgical Oncology unit has 24 private beds with a maximum capacity of 29.

The Surgical Oncology nurse cares for patients undergoing surgical intervention for an oncology diagnosis, e.g. head and neck, thoracic, and abdominal oncologic procedures. We also care for patients that are experiencing medical complications from their oncology diagnosis or post-surgical complications.

The Surgical Oncology team uses clinical judgment skills to diagnose and treat patient responses to actual or potential health conditions.

*Qualifications - External*
* Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
* BSN preferred.
* Oncology experience preferred.
* Licensed to practice as a registered nurse by the state of Michigan.
