Relief Driver/Yardman

Job Summary: 

Responsible for moving trailers to various locations on the property including trailer lot and loading bays. Maintain site security by greeting visitors at the guard shack and grant or deny access based on authorization from management. Act as relief driver for straight truck routes as needed to cover vacations and sick time.

Essential Job Functions:

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Inspect yard truck regularly to make sure everything, including emergency, mechanical and safety gear, is in working order before operating.
• Identify trailers based on ID number and move them according to instructions from Logistics Supervisor and Warehouse Supervisors.
• Back trailers into loading bay doors and tanker bay.
• Perform regular maintenance tasks on the truck, such as adding fuel, checking oil and radiator fluid.
• Perform regular reefer checks to make sure reefers are running when needed and have sufficient fuel.
• Act as relief driver for straight truck routes to cover vacations and callouts from primary drivers.
• Work with assistants at customer locations to ensure the correct product is delivered.
• Use a handheld tablet to record delivery information and print out confirmation sheets for customers.
• Load or unload product manually.
• Verify load security prior to moving trailer. 
• Record weights of incoming tankers and trailers as needed.
• Report any food safety and food quality related issues to management immediately. 
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Work overtime as needed and assigned.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures. 

Requirements

Minimum Required Qualifications: 

The minimum required qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Active Class B commercial driver’s license required.
• Bi-lingual (Spanish / English) preferred.
• Minimum of 2+ years experience in moving trailers and backing them into loading bays preferred.
• Minimum of 2+ years with a clean driving record with no moving violations.
• Yard/Switcher experience preferred.
• Dedication to safety and accident prevention.
• Ability to operate fully loaded pallet jacks occasionally.
• Ability to climb in and out of straight trucks, tractors and trailers repeatedly throughout shift.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel and climb repetitively throughout shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally including overhead.
• Ability to communicate with customers directly and represent Mill Road Dairy in a professional manner.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Ability to take accurate records of visitors to the property.
• Ability to adapt to changes to job duties on short notice.
• Familiarity with handheld devices such as tablets and wireless printers used during route deliveries.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
• Strong teamwork skills with a willingness to assist others.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work with limited supervision.
• Ability to work all assigned work schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays, and comply with all time and attendance policies.
• Ability to work overtime when required.
