Job Summary
We are seeking a talented Remodeler to join our team! In this role, daily responsibilities vary greatly for remodelers depending on the property where they’re working and the types of building and repair tasks which need to be performed. The core duties that remodelers perform, however, are universally the same and are outlined in the duties and responsibilities section.
Remodelers perform work of various types on commercial and residential property, including painting, installing plumbing fixtures, and general carpentry tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in various construction trades, demonstrating expertise in tasks such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical work, and general construction. The Remodeler will be responsible for executing a wide range of construction projects, ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards. We are currently seeking remodelers as employees and independent contractors. Remodelers typically work during daytime weekday hours, and those who work as independent contractors have some freedom to design their own schedules; however, we strongly prefer to work with those who are available most weekdays between the hours of 8am and 5pm. Tradesmen work within a collaborative team environment comprised of many other construction workers, tradesmen, remodelers, and contractors, and report to a job foreman. They are expected to travel in the local area to various customer sites to complete their job tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities vary greatly for remodelers depending on the property where they’re working and the types of building and repair tasks which need to be performed. The core duties that remodelers perform, however, are universally the same whether they work for themselves or within a company dynamic. Below is a generalized list of duties and responsibilities of a remodeler. This list is not intended to be all inclusive.
Assess Work Sites – Assess work sites where their specialty work is desired, and determine what needs to be done to complete the requested work.
Perform Carpentry Work – Perform various carpentry tasks that include installing cabinets, hanging doors, and framing rooms if they are trained to do so.
Replace Plumbing Fixtures – Replace plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, and faucets if they are trained to do so.
Hang Drywall – Hang, repair, and replace drywall as needed for new and existing rooms if they are trained to do so.
Install Flooring – Install floors, including wood floors, carpeting, concrete, and other flooring types if they are trained to do so.
Lay Tile – Install new tile work on floors and walls, place new grout, and repair existing tile if they are trained to do so.
Follow All Building Codes – Take out all required permits and follow building codes as set forth by city, county, and state laws if they are trained to do so.
Make Repairs – Repair existing property elements when possible if they are trained to do so.
Perform Finish Work – Install and replace trim, molding, windows, and perform other finish work if they are trained to do so.
Replace Light Fixtures – Replace light fixtures and ceiling fans if they are trained to do so.
Drawing/Plan Interpretation - Use blueprints, sketches, or building plans to determine construction requirements and materials needed.
Clean Job Sites – Clean up job sites during and after work.
Safety - Follow all safety rules and regulations applicable to the work site.
Social - Interact with customers, suppliers, and other construction professionals.
Other Duties As Assigned – Perform other duties as assigned by the company of which they are employed or contracting with.
Skills and Qualifications
Tradesmen use physical ability and mechanical skills to replace and repair walls, floors, roofs, cabinets, counters, and fixtures of all types in order to build new rooms and refurbish existing rooms.
Mechanical skills – Use a variety of tools and perform many different tasks that include carpentry, plumbing, and light electrical work if they are trained to do so.
Communication – Work collaboratively with construction workers and other professionals and tradesman, which requires excellent verbal communication skills.
Physical ability – Use physical ability to work with their hands and perform many tasks that require squatting, standing, and bending for hours at a time, and frequently lifting things up to 80 pounds alone, or greater with assistance.
Attention to detail – Because different aspects of remodeling work depend upon each other to function properly and look good, remodelers pay close attention to ensure that all work is performed well and correctly.
Multi-tasking – As tradesmen perform work on different projects and rooms while using a vast variety of trade skills, multi-tasking is an essential component of the job.
Building Code - Knowledge of applicable building regulations and codes
Power Tools - Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
Reading - Ability to read and take action on drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
Tools of the Trade
Tradesmen work regularly with the following tools:
- Hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, saws, demolition bars).
- Power tools (drills, nail guns, saws).
Education and Training
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Graduation from a trade or technical program preferred.
- Training directly related to the position preferred.
- Previous experience working in a related field preferred.
