Job Description - Addiction Medicine Physician

About the Role:

The Addiction Medicine Physician provides comprehensive, evidence-based treatment for patients with substance use disorders through Frontier Psychiatry’s fully remote telehealth platform. This role functions as a core member of an interdisciplinary care team that integrates psychiatric care, addiction treatment, therapy, case management, and pharmacy support.


The Addiction Medicine Physician is responsible for delivering high-quality clinical care, contributing to collaborative treatment planning, and supporting Frontier Psychiatry’s mission of improving access to addiction treatment for rural and underserved populations. An ideal candidate will be open to the scope of their role growing to include some non-clinical and leadership duties such as supervision of members of our addiction team, education of the clinical team, development of policies and procedures around addiction care, and more.


What you'll do:

Clinical Care Delivery:

  • Conduct initial evaluations and ongoing medication management for patients with substance use disorders
  • Provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine and naltrexone, in accordance with evidence-based guidelines
  • Develop and adjust individualized treatment plans in collaboration with psychiatrists, therapists, care coordinators, and pharmacy staff
  • Utilize measurement-based care tools to monitor patient progress and guide clinical decision-making
  • Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation consistent with organizational and regulatory standards

Interdisciplinary Collaboration:

  • Work closely with psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, therapists, and care coordinators to ensure integrated, whole-person care
  • Participate in clinical team meetings, case discussions, and provider rounds
  • Provide consultation and clinical insight related to addiction medicine across the broader clinical team

    Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement:
  • Adhere to Frontier Psychiatry’s clinical policies, procedures, and workflows
  • Support quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes and care delivery efficiency
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and organizational regulations governing addiction treatment and telehealth services
  • Contribute to a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and continuous learning

    Patient Access & Mission Alignment:
  • Deliver care in a manner that reduces barriers to treatment for rural and underserved populations
  • Uphold Frontier Psychiatry’s commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care
  • Engage constructively with operational and clinical changes as the organization continues to grow and evolve

Education & Experience:

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
  • Completed residency training in any specialty
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Addiction Medicine (ABAM certification or Addiction Medicine fellowship preferred)
  • Active DEA registration
  • Current, unrestricted medical license in Montana, Idaho, or Alaska, or willingness to obtain licensure in one or more of these states, as well as others as we expand into new states
  • Experience providing medication-assisted treatment strongly preferred
