Job Description - Business Development & Origination Associate

Business Development & Origination Associate

Employment Type: Full-time, Independent Contractor

Work Model: Remote

Work Hours: US Eastern Standard Time (EST) alignment (New York business hours)

Role Overview

We are seeking a commercially minded, analytical Business Development & Origination Associate with a background in renewable energy, infrastructure, or project finance to drive top-of-funnel origination efforts.

In this seat, you will manage initial outreach to renewable energy developers and independent power producers (IPPs)—with a primary focus on key power markets like ERCOT (Texas) and other major US ISOs—to negotiate and secure contracted power agreements. You will lead initial cold and warm outreach via phone and email, build target prospect lists, draft and tailor preliminary term sheets and introductory materials, and conduct initial qualification calls.

Crucially, you will serve as the intelligence hub for our origination pipeline—synthesizing complex market data, client feedback, and technical inputs from calls into structured intel reports, while independently tracking project metrics and client responses to accelerate deal execution.

Key Responsibilities

1. Top-of-Funnel Sourcing & Multi-Channel Outreach

  • Developer & IPP Sourcing: Build, segment, and manage targeted prospect lists using proprietary energy databases, market platforms, and industry research.

  • Outreach Execution: Conduct proactive outbound outreach (email and phone) to renewable energy developers, power producers, and project owners.

  • Appointment Setting: Qualify prospective development partners, explain our core value proposition, and set up high-value origination calls for senior leadership.

2. Deal Collateral & Term Sheet Drafting

  • Term Sheet & Deck Customization: Edit, tailor, and refine preliminary term sheets, process guides, and executive briefing materials explaining our contracted power structures.

  • Value Proposition Messaging: Clearly communicate our commercial capabilities, transaction processes, and structuring terms in writing to external stakeholders.

3. Call Intelligence, Intel Synthesis & Response Tracking

  • Contextual Data Synthesis: Attend and document initial origination calls—extracting critical technical, financial, and regulatory insights (e.g., interconnection status, PPA preferences, off-take timelines, and pricing expectations).

  • Intel Organization: Translate qualitative feedback and complex technical inputs from developer calls into structured summaries, CRM entries, and actionable intelligence reports.

  • Autonomous Pipeline Tracking: Independently track client responses, follow-up milestones, and deal stage progression without requiring step-by-step oversight.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Domain Background: 2–4+ years of professional experience or academic focus in Renewable Energy, Clean Tech, Infrastructure, Energy Project Finance, or Power Markets.

  • US Educational/Cultural Alignment: Prior experience working or studying within the United States, with a deep understanding of US corporate culture, professional norms, and commercial communication standards.

  • Energy Market Familiarity: Practical understanding of US energy markets (e.g., ERCOT, PJM, CAISO), renewable energy development lifecycles, power purchase agreements (PPAs), or energy finance fundamentals.

  • Communication & Writing Mastery: Exceptional written and spoken English skills; ability to articulate complex financial/energy concepts in clear, executive-level written correspondence and deal materials.

  • Analytical & Intelligence Skills: Strong ability to listen to complex technical/financial discussions, extract core insights, and write precise, contextual summaries and term sheet drafts.

  • Time Zone Alignment: Full availability to work dedicated full-time hours aligned with US Eastern Standard Time (EST / New York business hours).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using energy intelligence platforms (e.g., Velocity Suite, S&P Capital IQ, Energy Acuity, or specialized ISO queue trackers).

  • Direct experience in renewable energy origination, project finance modeling, or B2B energy sales development.

Success Metrics (KPIs)

  • Outreach & Meeting Velocity: Generating a consistent volume of qualified initial calls and booked appointments with targeted developers and power producers.

  • Intel Synthesis Quality: Delivering prompt, highly accurate written summaries and contextual tracking reports following developer calls.

  • Collateral Turnaround: Rapidly customizing and dispatching preliminary term sheets and explanatory materials to prospective partners.
