Position Overview

Optum is seeking a Licensed Pharmacy Technician to join the Pharmacy Support Center in a remote capacity. This position provides pharmacy support by processing medication refill requests, facilitating non-protocol requests, obtaining medication prior authorizations, and resolving medication-related cost and coverage issues.

The ideal candidate will provide exceptional customer service, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and be comfortable working within an electronic medical record (EMR) system. The selected candidate will also develop proficiency with Epic EMR and work collaboratively as part of the Pharmacy Support Center team.

Key Responsibilities

• Process medication refill requests according to established protocols.
• Facilitate non-protocol medication refill requests.
• Obtain prior authorizations for medications that require additional insurance approval.
• Resolve medication refill-related cost, coverage, and insurance issues.
• Enter prescription information accurately into the computer system.
• Search for and review patient records within Epic EMR.
• Identify prescribers and review relevant patient charts and laboratory information.
• Select appropriate medications and ensure accurate prescription documentation.
• Review and process electronic prescriptions, faxed prescriptions, MyChart renewals, and other medication-related requests according to department guidelines.
• Assist with management of pharmacy department pools, including open encounters and In-Basket messages.
• Understand pharmacy benefits and identify the correct insurance coverage.
• Review health plan formularies to determine medication coverage.
• Process prior authorizations for medications not covered by the patient's insurance.
• Consistently demonstrate Optum's commitment to quality, care, concern, and superior customer service.
• Collaborate effectively with team members and other internal departments.

Required Qualifications

• Current Pharmacy Technician License required.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple medication-related requests.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
• Ability to learn and effectively utilize Epic EMR.
• Ability to follow established pharmacy protocols, guidelines, and procedures.

Preferred Experience

• Experience processing medication refills.
• Experience with prior authorizations.
• Knowledge of pharmacy benefits and health plan formularies.
• Experience working with electronic prescriptions, faxed prescriptions, and patient portal medication requests.
• Previous experience working with Epic EMR.
• Healthcare or pharmacy support center experience.

This individual should be comfortable learning Epic EMR, navigating multiple systems, and working efficiently while maintaining accuracy and patient confidentiality.
