We are looking for a passionate Communications Manager for the Adrian-Balkan region (covering Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro) who brings solid expertise and commitment to FSC’s mission, to join our multinational team.
Short description of role You are keen to build knowledge and give visibility to responsible forestry in the Adria-Balkan region and communication about sustainability commitments of many regional actors. As Communication Manager, you will develop a communication plan, in collaboration with the Adria-Balkan and European Regional teams. This includes maintaining and monitoring communication channels such as the Adria Balkan website, social media platforms and newsletter. You will support the National Representative in shaping messages, preparing presentations for local audiences and, when needed, representing FSC at events, workshops, and seminars in the Region.
Develop and execute a short- and medium-term communication plan, in collaboration with Adria-Balkan and European teams.
Develop, maintain, and monitor communication channels in the region by regularly posting on the Adria Balkan website, social media platforms, newsletter, etc.
Support the National Representative in shaping messages/presentations to local audiences.
Represent FSC at events, workshops, or seminars in the region.
Organize events, workshops, or seminars, for relevant clients and stakeholders in the region.
Monitor media and sentiments about the impact of FSC in the region and pitch stories from the Adria-Balkan region to media.
Handle media crises in collaboration with the National Representative and the European Regional Communication Manager.
Actively participate in the European Network of Communicators by attending monthly calls, sharing knowledge, experience and updates with the community.
Coordinate the translation of relevant documents into the local languages.
Carry out any additional tasks as agreed with the National Representative for the Adria Balkans.
Education and Training:
University degree or equivalent training and experience in a relevant field, such as Communication, Science communication, Media management, International Relations, Journalism.
Professional training in communication of socio/environmental topics, communication about sustainability, multimedia production are desired.
Working Experience, Style and Skills:
At least 3 years of professional experience in communication and media management in the field of science, natural product marketing or sustainable development.
Project management experience.
Good time management skills: ability to perform well while handling, simultaneously, several functions.
Solution oriented attitude to work.
Service oriented attitude to work.
A strong sense of diligence and accuracy.
Proven ability to plan and organize work.
Language & Communication Skills:
Native level Croatian or Serbian skills are essential.
Fluency in Slovenian is a plus, as well as Serbian Cyrillic or Macedonian.
Fluency in English (spoken and written).
Digital Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with:
Standard software packages (MS Office).
Database management platforms.
Social Media Management (Meta Business Suite, Facebook Ads Manager, Google Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager).
Audience Targeting and Insights (SEMrush).
Content Creation & Design (Canva, Adobe Suite).
Team Collaboration & Project Management (Microsoft Teams).
Email Marketing (Mailchimp, etc).
Media Monitoring & Analytics (Google Alerts, BuzzSumo, Emplifi etc.).
Video and Livestreaming (Zoom).
Others:
Experience in working in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, global team.
Experience in working in / with an NGO or Non-Profit Organization can be an advantage.
Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.
Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of values, views and approaches to issues relevant to the FSC program by stakeholders around the world.
Ability to represent FSC through his/her work with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct.
Be part of a globally recognized organization at the forefront of sustainable forestry and contribute to the mission to help protect the world’s forests.
Play an active role in the FSC global community of 400+ forest stewards who come together in-person at least once a year.

Location: based in a country within Adria-Balkan region (preference for Serbia and Croatia)
Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week
Duration of employment: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance).
Travel: Sporadic travel is required, which might occur with short notice (a week)
Possession of a car and a valid driver’s license are required
