POSITION OVERVIEW

Location: Denver, CO 

Reports to: Senior Director of Community Health Programs 

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 40 hours/week with varying hours, including some evenings and 
weekends. 

Compensation: $54,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience 

Status: Full-time salaried exempt 

Work Model: Hybrid

POSITION SUMMARY
The Community Health Programs Manager will support implementation and development of various and diverse projects under the Community Health Programs. This position will lead the effort to intentionally and meaningfully connect with the community while also providing solutions to everyday environmental health issues. The goal of this position is to support achieving climate justice through immediate and tangible projects in partnership with residents and the broader community. 
 
This position will assist the Community Health Programs by collaborating with the Senior Director of Community Health Programs. This position will support programs in diverse ways including community outreach with the aim of sharing information with community members about upcoming climate justice related programs such as tree planting, water and air filter distribution, rain barrels, rain gardens, and energy audits. In addition, this role will support hands-on projects including maintenance of trees, rain barrels, and rain gardens.  This role will also supervise and aid in coordination with the young adult “Ground Corp” program, aiding in scheduling and programming for this team to assist in projects while also gaining on-the-job skills. 
 Groundwork Denver is also exploring social enterprises; this position will be critical in the development and implementation of social enterprises in our programming. 
 
While this new position will evolve over time, it is estimated that the Manager will initially spend 25% on external community engagement, 25% program development, 25% on on-the-ground project implementation, and 25% conducting supervisory duties. 
 

Program Responsibilities: Support Community Health Programs with coordination and implementation of service provisions:
 

  • Air Program: Planting and maintenance of trees and rain gardens at residential, community and business sites. Supporting coordination of volunteer planting engagements. 

  • Water Program: Installing and maintaining rain barrels for residential homes. Supporting community Water steward events/engagements as needed. 

  • Civic Education Program: Supporting community/Youth based climate justice learning events/engagements, including Earth Talks. 

  • Ground Corps Supervision: supporting the development and implementation of Ground Corps involvement in Community Health Program initiatives.
     
    • Ground Corps is a team of young adults (around 18-25) that will help to implement GWD services, including Social Enterprise (fee for service) provisions.


  • Support the development and implementation of GWD’s Social Enterprise program offerings:
     
    • Water, Air, and Energy service offerings to community members, municipalities, and businesses. 


  • Community Engagement Support

  • Build and sustain relationships with community leaders and residents throughout our target areas/neighborhoods 

  • Support various team leaders on community recruitment for their programs 

  • Innovate and build upon civic and community engagement to empower community leaders and residents to take action on climate change and policy



Responsibilities as a member of the Groundwork Denver team:
 

  • Actively participate in Groundwork Denver’s Journey towards Justice and Inclusion including discussions, readings, strategic planning, self-reflection, action and more

  • Participate in fundraising events and appeals as requested

  • Participate in volunteer days when needed 

  • Participate in shared office responsibilities like cleaning, organizing, and risk management

  • Collaborate respectfully and productively with co-workers to achieve Groundwork Denver’s overall mission 

  • Contribute to a positive office culture

  • Attend all staff meetings, meetings for one ongoing staff committee, and other meetings as discussed with the Executive Director



Qualifications, education and experience:
 

  • Passion for Groundwork Denver’s mission and alignment with our values and goals

  • At least 2-4 years of leading community organizing, community engagement, campaign efforts and/or implementing environmental projects in an environmental justice context

  • At least 2 years of supervising and/or working with young adults

  • Knowledgeable or have the desire to learn more about environmental justice/environmental health

  • The ideal candidate is already connected to environmental justice communities (GES, Aurora, Commerce City, Thornton, or Park Hill) with existing relationships.

  • Experience working with a team and independently, in work, volunteer, or school settings

  • Good communication skills in English, both written and oral; Spanish-language skills are preferred

  • Understanding of racial equity and a commitment to continuous personal learning and growth around issues of race and class equity

  • Ability to accurately keep track of data including hours worked, activities conducted, and contact information for whom you engaged 

  • Those with experience working with the populations that Groundwork Denver serves, or who have similar life experiences or backgrounds, will be strongly considered. Individuals from communities that have been historically marginalized or under-represented in the environmental field are strongly encouraged to apply.



Other Requirements:
 

  • Office work environment is an office in the Cole neighborhood of Denver that is ADA compliant. 

  • Field work or volunteer activities may include supervising youth in natural areas and parks, tree planting, door-to-door canvassing, and other outdoor physical activity. 

  • Ability to utilize computer systems, manage phones, and travel to and from meetings and appointments.

  • A background check will be completed prior to start of work and as often as annually. 

  • Bilingual Spanish/English is required.
