Job Description - Corporate Development Specialist

The Corporate Development Specialist will report to the Executive Director of the NCCN Foundation and is responsible for supporting the development, promotion, and implementation of the Foundation’s Employer Initiative, including the development of comprehensive plans for soliciting and securing corporate and individual gifts through a donor relationship (moves) management process. This position will require moderate overnight travel.


Requirements

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Executive Director to develop strategies and proposals to secure corporate funding to the Foundation through the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of existing and prospective corporate supporters. Develop and manage a portfolio of at least 125 current and prospective corporate supporters.
  • Create individual goals for each employer based on the donor’s history of giving and the organization’s knowledge of that donor’s potential for both corporate philanthropy and employee giving.
  • Maintain an aggressive visitation schedule (8-10 visits per month) and travel as necessary to visit donors and prospects.
  • Work with NCCN departments to secure appropriate project information, including budgets, and create offers, proposals and asks that will be used with donors to secure gifts and report back on how their giving is making a difference.
  • Maintain current knowledge of NCCN programs and priorities in order to present the NCCN mission to prospective and current donors in a compelling and inspiring way.
  • Use CRM system (Salesforce) to record, track, forecast, and generate monthly reports that accurately reflect caseload activity and performance.
  • Coordinate and manage an effective program for recognition, involvement and stewardship of all donors.
  • Attend conferences, meetings and special events as necessary for donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Support workplace giving campaigns within your employer portfolio to ensure current revenue generation, while building pipeline for future major gift supporters.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Three or more years of corporate development experience with preference given to candidates with cancer related fundraising experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Competence in fundraising software, especially that which applies to the specific area of prospect management. Experience with the Salesforce platform is preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Willing to use a donor-centered approach to first help the donor accomplish their goals through their giving and in turn, enable NCCN Foundation to fulfill its mission.
  • An interest in all aspects of cancer research, treatment and patient care.
  • Understanding of fundraising priorities developed through working relationships with NCCN leadership and staff.
  • Successfully manage multi-functional and diverse activities and initiatives.
  • Ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and alter strategic advancement plans.
  • Ability to articulate the case for support so that prospects embrace the vision, mission and goals of NCCN.
  • Discipline to make prospecting calls on a daily basis. 
  • Willing to be accountable to behavior and result metrics.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills required.
  • In addition to these general skills, the position requires the ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: (1) to initiate contacts with potential major donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) to make solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors. 
  • Knowledge of social networking tools and opportunities.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

This position operates in a professional office environment and is largely sedentary. This role routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
