Job Description - Direct Support Professional (DSP) | Community & Medical Support | McMinnville, OR

About Empowered Services

Empowered Services provides individualized, one-on-one support in home and community settings for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We hire and train Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to deliver dependable, person-centered care that promotes independence, builds daily living skills, and supports meaningful community engagement.

Role Overview

We are seeking an entry-level DSP / Caregiver to provide engaging, hands-on support for an adult in the McMinnville area. (No prior DSP experience required—paid training provided.) This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys being active, socially engaged, and involved in planning meaningful outings, while also providing attentive, supportive care. This is a hands-on role that combines community engagement with consistent physical and medical support.

Core Focus Areas

This position centers around:

  • Supporting community outings and social experiences

  • Assisting with personal care and mobility needs

  • Encouraging participation through choice and engagement

  • Providing attentive supervision and safety awareness

  • Supporting communication through observation and responsiveness

Schedule

  • Tuesday: 6:45 AM – 4:45 PM

  • Thursday: 2:45 PM – 7:00 PM

  • Friday: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (or 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

  • Consistent weekly schedule with some flexibility based on needs

Who You’ll Be Supporting

She:

  • Uses a wheelchair and requires consistent physical support

  • Enjoys spending time with friends and family and being part of social activities

  • Has a great sense of humor and a calm, engaging personality

She loves:

  • Community outings like movies, bowling, and local activities

  • Swimming and water-based activities whenever possible

  • Creative experiences like spa days, hair/nails, and fashion (especially pink, purple, and sparkly styles)

  • Music, cooking shows, and reality TV

Support Needs & Environment

This role involves hands-on, attentive support in both home and community settings.

Key considerations:

  • She may vocalize loudly at times; a calm, patient response is important

  • Requires time to process and respond, providers should move at her pace and avoid rushing interactions

  • Strong emphasis on dignity, respect, and flexibility in all support

Physical and medical support includes:

  • Assistance with mobility and positioning

  • Daily physical therapy exercises

  • Medication administration

  • Following established seizure and medical support protocols

  • Tube feeding support

  • Monitoring body language for signs of discomfort or pain

Compensation & Benefits

  • $23–$25 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)

  • Paid training

  • Flexible schedule based upon the customer

Full-time employees (30+ hours/week) may be eligible for:

  • Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance

  • 401(k) with employer match

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)

Required:

  • 18 years or older

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Current auto insurance

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • Comfortable supporting personal care and mobility needs

Preferred:

  • Experience in caregiving, DSP, or IDD support roles

  • Strong communication and observational skills

  • CPR/First Aid certification

  • CNA License or Medical Experience
