The Director, Medical Services, will support National Team (NT) athletes in achieving competitive success by coordinating medical care to address injuries and illnesses, creating and providing educational opportunities, and adopting and maintaining NT medical standards and policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain strong working relationships with NT coaches and athletes through regular interactions at competitions and camps.
Serve as the point of contact for all medical related inquiries from NT athletes and coaches.
Coordinate medical care alongside NT physicians.
Assist athletes and coaches in integrating health related information into performance.
Serve as a USA Swimming liaison to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) medical network and relevant external organizations.
Coordinate NT participation in the Elite Athlete Health Profile and Mental Health Profile.
Along with the NT Division, plan and host the annual Sports Medicine Seminar.
Along with the Chief Medical Officer and Team Physician, facilitate the committee appointment process for USA Swimming’s Sports Medicine Committee and coordinate the committee’s annual meeting schedule.
Assist in the coordination of periodic health evaluations and associated screening tests for the NT.
Individual NT coach and athlete Support:
Provide practical and accurate medical and health-related information to NT athletes and coaches.
In response to athletes’ medical needs, connect athletes with relevant doctors for professional medical care.
Work with external stakeholders as needed for athlete health and performance.
Competition and Performance Support:
Travel to domestic and international competitions as needed.
Provide USOPC clinic support as needed.
International Team Travel Support:
Assist in the selection, credentialing, and scheduling of medical staff for all domestic and international competitions and camps.
Prepare all medical staff for all camp and competition needs, including but not limited to, athlete medical information, infectious disease protocols, emergency action plans, and equipment needs.
Work with the USOPC to send medical history information prior to international competition and to provide information to team physicians in a timely manner.
Other Duties:
Maintain and develop relationships, internally and externally, that support overall athlete health and performance.
Travel, as needed, to support athletes at NT domestic and international camps and competitions.
Assist in the process of identifying and contracting with appropriate medical vendors.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in sport science, sports medicine, related field, or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 10 years’ experience working in sports medicine/athlete health. Experience with the sport of swimming preferred.
Advanced education of a wide range of medical/injury conditions relating to athletes.
Understanding of, or experience with, National Governing Bodies and the Olympic Movement.
An athletics care provider (i.e., physician, athletic trainer, physical therapist, or chiropractor) with an unrestricted license in good standing to practice in their related field of practice.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the year.
Must be able to lift up to twenty pounds.
This position is open to remote, hybrid, or in-office working arrangements. The USA Swimming headquarters is in Colorado Springs, CO; occasional travel to CO required for remote workers.
Salary & Benefits:
Salary range for this position is $140,000 - $160,000 annually.
Bonus Eligibility: Based on company performance, this position may be eligible for an annual target bonus of 10%
