Rosie’s Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunities, and find security in their lives. 

Over the years, we have become much more than a shelter. We are a multi-service community center that not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for thousands of women a year through wide-ranging support, housing, and education services. Rosie’s Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding.

OPPORTUNITY

The Director of Development oversees all aspects of Rosie’s Place’s fundraising program, ensuring financial sustainability and aligning development efforts with the organization’s mission and values. The Director of Development reports to the Chief External Relations Officers and oversees a team of fundraising professionals. This leadership role involves planning and implementing a comprehensive fundraising growth strategy that includes major gifts, corporate and foundation relations, planned giving, direct mail, and special events, while ensuring sound development operations. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan to raise $16M+ annually, incorporating strategic individual solicitation and stewardship efforts to optimize donor engagement and ensure long-term growth and sustainability. 
• Lead, motivate, and support a talented team of fundraising professionals, ensuring accountability, professional growth, and strong collaboration.
• Collaborate with the development team to create and track an annual fundraising plan, establishing clear goals and metrics for each program component.
• Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance, adjust strategies, and produce reports on progress and trends for internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage a portfolio of high-value donors, cultivating relationships and soliciting gifts of $10,000+.
• Partner with Communications team to create compelling donor materials and messaging.
• Ensure adherence to best practices in fundraising programs, donor stewardship, and financial reporting.
• In close collaboration with the Chief External Relations Officer, oversee capital campaigns and other special fundraising initiatives.
• Fulfill responsibilities as a member of the Management Team, including participation at appropriate meetings and demonstrating leadership to all of Rosie’s Place. 
• Represent Rosie’s Place in the community.
• Carry out all other tasks and duties as assigned by the Chief External Relations Officer.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Commitment to Rosie’s Place’s mission and values, with a deep understanding of nonprofit human services.
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferred focus in fundraising, communications, or nonprofit management.
• Minimum of seven years of experience in fundraising, with a proven track record in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving and special events.
• Strong leadership and management skills with experience leading a team of fundraising professionals.
• Demonstrated success as a frontline fundraiser with experience in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor communications and materials.
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and adapt fundraising strategies accordingly.
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to build strong relationships with staff, board members, and external stakeholders.
• Experience managing fundraising databases; Blackbaud products preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job is performed in an office environment. Day-to-day work includes paper and computer work as well as interaction with staff, guests, and volunteers. The position will require travel between facilities or community locations.

WORK EXPECTATIONS AT ROSIE’S PLACE

We are a hands-on team and seek employees who are passionate about our work and service to our community. The Director of Development is a full-time, exempt position. While the Director of Development is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, they must work on-site at Rosie’s Place during part of their work week and engage regularly with staff, guests, and volunteers. They are also expected to be flexible with their days in person to take part in organizational events and other work obligations. This position may require travel between Rosie’s Place facilities and community locations.

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting salary range for this position is $110, 000-$140,000 commensurate with experience. Rosie’s Place offers a robust benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid vacation and more.
