Director of Engineering – High Voltage & Circuit Breaker Solutions

Position Summary
This hands-on engineering leadership role bridges engineering, sales, and project development to deliver high-voltage transformer and circuit breaker solutions for critical power infrastructure projects. The Director will lead technical scoping and solution development, support power generation, transmission, and distribution applications, collaborate directly with customers and internal teams, and develop engineering talent and scalable technical support processes from concept through commissioning.
Job Function
Lead technical scoping and solution development with engineers, developers, EPCs, and other customers across power generation, transmission, and distribution sectors.
Participate in customer meetings to review project layouts, electrical one-line diagrams, and site-specific integration of transformer and circuit breaker solutions.
Identify opportunities to optimize and differentiate product solutions during the design process.
Collaborate with Sales and Business Development teams to provide pre-sales technical guidance and develop bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and project-specific solutions.
Develop standard layout templates and technical documentation to accelerate project quoting and bidding.
Ensure proposed solutions align with manufacturing capabilities and delivery timelines.
Coordinate with manufacturing, procurement, and engineering teams to ensure custom solutions are technically and operationally deliverable.
Serve as a subject matter expert for field engineers and sales teams supporting data center, industrial, and utility markets.
Refine the engineering support model to scale effectively across growth markets.
Develop and mentor internal engineering staff to become technical leads supporting sales verticals.
Create playbooks and training programs for internal sales engineers and channel partners.
Partner with Human Resources to maintain a talent pipeline and develop the next generation of engineering talent.
Education and Experience
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required; multi-state licensure preferred.
10+ years of experience in utility-scale engineering, power generation, transmission, or transformer and circuit breaker design and application.
Experience managing multi-stakeholder technical negotiations involving utilities, regulators, and developers.
Experience leading multimillion-dollar engineering projects from concept through commissioning.
Experience leading cross-functional teams across engineering, operations, and customer success.
Experience with EPCs, RFPs, and proposal development for power infrastructure projects preferred.
Qualifications
Deep understanding of grid interconnection, substation design, protection and switching schemes, and the transformer lifecycle.
Strong project management skills with the ability to guide complex engineering projects through commissioning.
Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences.
Familiarity with NERC and FERC regulations, interconnection standards, clean energy policy, IEEE/ANSI C37-series circuit breaker standards, and substation protection schemes preferred.
Familiarity with transformer and circuit breaker factory operations and logistics preferred.
Ability to work effectively across technical, commercial, manufacturing, procurement, and customer-facing functions.
