Location: Papua New Guinea (PNG)

Roster: 4 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off (FIFO)

About the Role

Our client is seeking experienced and highly motivated Drill Fitters to support underground and surface drilling operations at their mining project in Papua New Guinea. This is a hands-on role suited to candidates with strong mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting experience across a range of drilling equipment used in mining and mineral exploration environments.

The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting drilling equipment to ensure maximum operational reliability and minimal downtime. The role requires strong fault-finding capability, experience interpreting hydraulic schematics, and practical knowledge of Epiroc and Boart Longyear drilling equipment.

Candidates must have experience working across both underground and surface drilling operations and be comfortable working within remote FIFO mining environments.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Repairs

Carry out maintenance, servicing, repairs, and breakdown support on underground and surface drilling equipment

Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic faults using schematics and technical drawings

Perform preventative maintenance to maximise equipment reliability and minimise operational downtime

Conduct inspections, fault reporting, and component change-outs on drilling rigs and support equipment

Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with OEM and site standards

Technical & Hydraulic Troubleshooting

Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, pumps, motors, valves, and associated drilling components

Read and interpret hydraulic and mechanical schematics for fault diagnosis and repairs

Support operational drilling crews with technical advice and equipment troubleshooting

Assist with rig commissioning, setup, and mobilisation activities as required

Equipment Experience

Maintain and support the operational performance of:

- Epiroc rigs CS11

- Boart Longyear LM rigs

- Indo Drill 200 rigs

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

Follow all company HSE procedures and PNG mining safety regulations

Maintain a strong safety-first approach in all maintenance and operational activities

Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and risk assessments

Ensure all work areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition

Report hazards, incidents, and equipment issues promptly

Reporting & Communication

Complete maintenance records, service reports, and breakdown documentation accurately

Communicate effectively with supervisors, drilling crews, and maintenance personnel

Provide clear handovers between shifts and roster rotations

Support continuous improvement initiatives for maintenance and operational efficiency

Requirements

Experience & Technical Skills

Minimum 5+ years’ experience as a Drill Fitter within mineral exploration drilling environments

Proven experience working on both underground and surface drilling equipment

Strong hydraulic troubleshooting and schematic interpretation capability

Hands-on experience with:

- Epiroc CS11 rigs

- Boart Longyear LM rigs

- Indo Drill 200 rigs

Strong fault-finding and preventative maintenance experience

Mining industry experience is essential

Previous remote site or FIFO experience highly regarded

Competencies

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability

Ability to work independently and within multicultural team environments

Strong commitment to workplace safety and operational standards

Good communication and reporting skills in English

Ability to work under pressure in remote operational environments

Qualifications

Relevant Mechanical Trade Qualification highly desired (Diesel Fitter / Heavy Equipment / Auto Electrical/ Mechanical Trade)

Hydraulic system and electrical system experience highly advantageous

Current medical fitness for remote FIFO work

Valid passport required
