Job Title – Elder Pride Services Training, Advocacy and Outreach Specialist
FLSA Classification –nonexempt
Salary Grade - $24.50 hour

Report to – Director of Community Services
Worksite – Primary work location is Friendly House, 1737 NW 26th Ave, Portland, OR 97210. Frequent travel across the Portland Metro area to meetings, events, training, etc.
Schedule –Typically M-F business hours. Some weekend and evening events are required. This is primarily an in-person position, in the office and at offsite events. Once the initial training period is complete, up to two days per week may be from a remote location.

Job Description – Summary
This position will work collaboratively with other staff, volunteers, community partners, and funders, with the overarching goal of improving the lives of aging LGBTQ+ people through advocacy, outreach and education. The Training, Advocacy and Outreach Specialist’s time working directly with the LGBTQ+ older adult population is limited due to the extent of other work to be done. However, the Training, Advocacy and Outreach Specialist will interact at community and outreach events, through the advisory council, and other activities as time allows.
Trainings and Education: EPS provides training to a wide range of groups providing education on the strengths and challenges of LGBTQ+ older adults. The Training, Advocacy and Outreach Specialist oversees all aspects of EPS training, including, but not limited to, recruitment and onboarding of Elder Panel members, development of curriculum, scheduling, and facilitation. The EPS Elder Panel is composed of skilled volunteers who share their personal stories in training workshops, a key component of the training curriculum.
Housing: The Training, Advocacy and Outreach Specialist is responsible for all aspects of the Housing Committee (HC). The main goal of the HC is to amplify the voices of LGBTQ+ older adults and foster safe, welcoming communities where they can thrive. This also involves forming partnerships and advocating for housing issues that affect LGBTQ+ older adults.
Advocacy: In collaboration with community partners and advocates, the Training, Advocacy and Outreach Specialist will support and lead local, regional and national advocacy initiatives. The Training, Advocacy and Outreach Specialist is responsible for staffing the Advisory Council, designed to lead, steer, and support program activities and priorities of EPS.

Physical Requirements
Employees must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time up to 30-50%, with the ability to move, traverse in the office and work environment. Use hands/fingers to handle/ or feel. Operate the computer and other office equipment. Occasionally ascend stairs or walk in uneven terrain. May need to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend. Communicate information and ideas so others will understand and exchange accurate information in these situations. The ability to see or observe detail at close range. May lift or move items up to 30lbs. May be exposed to smells, cold/heat and outdoor environments.
