Job Description - Farmer Engagement Manager - 6 month contract

UNDO

UNDO is tackling the greatest challenge of our time: climate change. We are a fast-growing for-profit business that is already one of the biggest carbon removal companies in the world. But this is only the start - we have ambitious plans aligned with great funding, excellent people and an inclusive team. You too could make your mark and help remove 1 million tonnes of CO₂ by 2030 with our nature-based technology, enhanced weathering.

About the role

UNDO is on a mission to tackle the greatest challenge of our time: climate change. We have set-up a range of field trials and research studies designed to detect weathering signals, validate our geochemical model, provide robust evidence of enhanced rock weathering as a carbon removal tool, and show the agronomic co-benefits of enhanced weathering. To support our ambitious growth plans, we have a great opportunity for a dedicated land liaison specialist to join our Canadian research team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading-edge company actively working on a promising solution to the climate emergency. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with partnered farmers which underpin our land access partnerships for our ERW operations in Ontario.

You will support the team in the following tasks:

  • Identify, build and onboard local and regional networks of landowners and land managers in our project area across a diverse range of agricultural practice and farm size.

  • Collect soil and rock samples to determine site eligibility and provide baseline data

  • Lead on coordination for operational access, in line with our work plan

  • Schedule Wollastonite spreading, accounting for seasonality in agricultural practice, weather and ground conditions

  • Support Canadian Wollastonite to partner effectively with agricultural contractors to deliver spreading operations safely and compliantly

  • Identify opportunities to support community projects and initiatives aligned to UNDO’s purpose

  • Support the quality control of associated data being entered into our databases

  • Support the wider team with operational activity as needed

You’ll get from UNDO

  • A strong purpose; the opportunity to pioneer carbon removal, impacting the planet for the better

  • A fast-paced environment in an emerging market, with a strong build-and-learn culture

  • High autonomy and empowerment to deliver what is needed

  • Working alongside industry-leading scientists and measurement professionals

We’d love to see from you

Essential

  • A self-starter attitude, keen to learn and bring a proactive approach to our land pipeline management

  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to adapt to diverse audiences, including confidently using technology to liaise with potential partners

  • Some experience and knowledge of farming or agriculture

  • Ability to confidently and autonomously manage a broad scope of work, juggling several projects concurrently in line with business and team goals

  • Full driving licence and personal vehicle

  • Strong buy-in to our mission; a desire to help solve the climate crisis

  • Some experience in customer-facing work, such as business development

Desirable

  • Knowledge of regenerative agriculture

  • Understanding of the environmental regulatory framework in Ontario

  • Familiarity with Ontario agricultural policy

Working environment

This role will require travel across Eastern Ontario to relevant potential sites, and will include working predominantly outdoors / in rural settings, in varying weather conditions.

Ontario has a significant land mass governed by treaty-based agreements with First Nations people. As part of our long-term operations in Canada, UNDO is committed to developing relationships, having open consultation and providing equitable access to opportunities that result from our work. We are very mindful of the physically and spiritually dependent tie that First Nations people have to the land and respect their stewardship.

We're an equal opportunity employer. We are looking for the best candidate based on the value they can add. Our culture is hugely important to us and we welcome applicants of all race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status. We encourage all candidates who believe they have the required skills and experience for any of our roles to apply.
