Job Description - Fiber Optic Technician - Chicago, IL

VEA Connect is actively seeking a certified and experienced Fiber Optic Splice Technician who can hit the ground running—no training, no hand-holding. You’ll join our growing field operations team responsible for turnkey FTTx builds and emergency fiber restoration projects. If you’re confident with a fusion splicer in your hands and can document work like a pro, we want you on our team.

Key Responsibilities:

· Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables with a high degree of accuracy.

· Conduct OTDR, light source/power meter, and live fiber testing to verify continuity and quality of splices.

· Read and interpret splice schematics and fiber assignments.

· Maintain detailed and accurate splice documentation, test results, and daily production logs.

· Troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting network performance during both scheduled and emergency work.

· Work safely and efficiently in underground, aerial, and indoor environments.

· Collaborate with project managers and field crews to ensure timely and clean project delivery.

Required Qualifications:

· Minimum 1 year of hands-on splicing experience (no entry-level candidates).

· Must hold a valid Fiber Optic Certification (e.g., FOA CFOT, ETA, or equivalent).

· Proficient with industry-standard testing equipment (OTDRs, power meters, VFLs, etc.).

· Experience with aerial, underground, and inside plant (ISP) environments preferred.

· Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines.

· Must be able to work after-hours and weekends for on-call/emergency restoration work as needed.

· Willingness to travel for work between states for project assignments and emergency response.

· Clean driving record required.
