Key Responsibilities - As the Controller, you’ll take ownership of accounting operations while supporting executive leadership with timely financial insights
- Financial oversight: Manage AP, AR, billing, and general ledger activities with a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
- Cash & working capital: Monitor bank accounts and cash flow to maintain financial health and ensure operational stability. Oversee AR and AP operations, including collections cadence and deduction resolution; AP payment calendar, terms optimization, card policy, and early‑pay discounts vs. cash needs.
- Month‑end close & reporting: Lead the close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and timely delivery of financial statements. Provide concise Budget vs. Actuals commentary and a clear management pack for leadership.
- Inventory & COGS (CPG critical): Own monthly tie‑outs between 3PL/WMS and ERP and margin analysis by channel; ensure clean landed‑cost mapping and COGS accuracy. Partner with Sales/eComm to track and resolve deductions/chargebacks and to correctly map promos/fees.
- Controls, audit & tax: Design and monitor the control framework (segregation of duties, approval matrix, user access reviews across ERP, bill pay, cards, payroll, Shopify/marketplaces, and 3PL). Lead audit readiness (PBC lists, walkthroughs, documentation standards, remediation). Coordinate sales & use tax and 1099s with external advisors; monitor nexus and unclaimed property compliance.
- Systems & process optimization: Own the accounting stack and integrations (ERP, 3PL/WMS, Shopify, Bill.com, Ramp, payroll/HRIS). Identify automation opportunities; document SOPs and train stakeholders.
- Payroll & related: Prepare and review bi‑monthly payroll and salary data in partnership with People Operations.
- Strategic partnership: Collaborate with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; provide driver inputs and decision‑ready insights (no separate FP&A layer). Communicate proactively with business leaders to surface risks, clarify financial impacts, and drive follow‑through.
- Player/Coach Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor Accounts Receivable Specialist, providing guidance, coaching, and performance development. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the finance team.
Qualifications - The ideal Controller is a true co-pilot who pairs hands on execution with a strategic, enterprise mindset and strong technical judgement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA a plus; CPA highly desirable)
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with 5+ years in a senior accounting or Controller role
- Depth in CPG/eCommerce with inventory and 3PL/WMS accounting; multi‑entity/location exposure
- In‑depth knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS, with strong familiarity in sales/use tax and internal controls
- Strong analytical skills, financial reporting expertise, and experience with forecasting and budgeting
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite or comparable) and integrations with Shopify/marketplaces, Bill.com, Ramp, and TriNet (or similar HRIS/payroll)
