Freelance Social Media Video Editor (Short-Form Content)

We’re looking for a social-first Video Editor (Freelance, Remote) who can turn everyday footage into content people actually want to watch.

This isn't a traditional corporate video editing role. We're looking for someone who genuinely understands Instagram Reels, TikTok and short-form social content. Someone who can spot the best moment in a piece of raw footage, build a strong hook, keep the pacing tight and use creative editing to make even seemingly ordinary moments engaging.

Most importantly, we want an editor who brings ideas to the table. You shouldn't need a frame-by-frame brief to create a great video.

Responsibilities

• Edit approximately 12–15 short-form social videos per month.
• Turn raw footage, interviews and social content into engaging vertical videos.
• Identify the strongest hooks, reactions, soundbites and entertaining moments from raw footage.
• Create punchy, platform-native edits for Instagram Reels and TikTok.
• Use captions, cuts, zooms, graphics, sound effects, reactions and other creative treatments where they improve the content.
• Find creative ways to keep viewers engaged during slower or less visually interesting moments.
• Adapt your editing approach to the content rather than relying on one template.
• Work with the social team while independently recommending creative approaches.

Lives and breathes social content.

You understand why some videos make people stop scrolling while others feel flat.

Has strong creative instincts.

You can look at the raw footage and decide what should stay, what should go, and how the story should be edited without needing every decision explained to you.

Understands pacing and retention.

You know how to get into the content quickly, remove dead moments and keep viewers interested throughout the video.

Can make ordinary footage interesting.

Not every piece of footage will arrive perfectly scripted or packed with exciting moments. You know how to use editing creatively to bring energy to the content.

Doesn't edit everything the same way.

Different stories need different treatments. We're looking for someone who can adapt their editing style based on the footage, concept and audience.
