Job Description - Gender Affirming Care Program Manager

POSITION TITLE: Gender Affirming Care Program Manager
STATUS: Full Time, Exempt 
ANNUAL SALARY: $60,000 per year
LOCATION: Remote within Michigan (some travel required)
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Up to 20% travel for visits to health centers across Michigan and GAC related events/outreach

Position Description
Under supervision from the Director of Gender Affirming Care (GAC), the GAC Program Manager will play a key role in leading PPMI in advancing all aspects of gender-affirming care. The Program Manager will be tasked with maintaining and contributing to the iterative improvement of our gender-affirming hormone care program and related services. The GAC Program Manager will work closely with the Director of GAC and patient care coordinators/navigators to facilitate patient care coordination, develop and expand services and resources related to GAC, engage staff in GAC training, facilitate interdepartmental work within PPMI to foster gender inclusivity in all of PPMI’s work, and will engage with community partners on GAC as needed. This staff person will fully embody a commitment to race equity, evidenced in all interactions with PPMI colleagues and stakeholders.
 
 Essential Functions
◉Supports direct patient care through participating in intake and rooming of patients as needed for our complex GAC telehealth clinic, assisting in scheduling patients, obtaining outside records, and answering patient portal messages within the scope of their training.
◉Develops, maintains, and expands services and resources related to GAC at PPMI. This may include, but is not is not limited to, efforts such as: researching and outlining steps to implementing new services, developing proposed workflows and guides for new services, conducting trainings, participating in workflows for new services, and improving existing and developing new patient facing materials. The Program Manager is encouraged to work creatively and inter-departmentally within PPMI, and with partner organizations, to make sustainable and meaningful steps to improve our GAC culture and patient care.
◉Plays a lead role in communicating with patients, patients’ pharmacies, nurses, clinicians, and insurance companies to facilitate patient care. This includes assistance and leadership as it relates to navigating difficult prior authorizations, denials, and appeals including obtaining and submitting letters of support. Works closely with the Patient Care Coordinators related to prior authorizations, and troubleshooting difficult cases.
◉Coordinates the functions of the PPMI GAC Community Advisory Board (CAB). Tasks related to the CAB will include, but are not limited to: preparing for meetings, facilitating meetings, communicating with CAB members, recruiting and selecting CAB members, coordinating CAB member reimbursement, and attending and engaging in events related to the CAB.
◉Participates in, and leads as appropriate, GAC-related trainings. Assist other staff in improving gender-affirming approach to all PPMI trainings.
◉Acts as a resource and partner to other PPMI teams as it relates to GAC and culture, including but not limited to, working with the communication, development, education and outreach, and advocacy arms of the organization.
◉Engages in outreach and engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including potential partnership development. Builds relationships with other GAC providers and support organizations external to PPMI.
◉Iteratively assesses quality of GAC provided by PPMI through work with staff, leadership, the Community Advisory Board, site visits, and patient experience data. Develops and implements quality improvement efforts, including trainings and resource development, in conjunction with the Directory of GAC. This may include participating in GAC chart audits, evaluation of patient satisfaction surveys, and compiling findings as required.
◉Participates in public communication regarding GAC at PPMI as appropriate and within the scope of their practice and training.
◉Attends GAC conferences and events deemed applicable to the job duties of the Manager.

Qualifications and Experience
·       Demonstrated commitment to advancing gender equity, specifically in relation to transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive people; interest in forging and maintaining meaningful connections between the PPMI GAC program and gender diverse community across the state.
·       Strong ability to manage clinically and emotionally challenging situations with utmost professionalism, care and discretion.
·       Ability to provide precise, well-written documentation and communication.
·       Ability to meet deadlines and work within a team-based environment.
·       Demonstrated ability to achieve objectives in collaboration with other functional areas
·       Demonstrated commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission, vision and values
 Ability to:
o   Work under pressure on multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
o   Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
o   Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred
·       Experience in community based medical/health or social services settings; social work, counseling, nursing, public health or other health education
·       Transgender, non-binary, or gender expansive life experience
·       Knowledge of Michigan’s resources and community organizations engaged in gender affirming care
