Welcome to the HCM Year2 Program/School for Ministry. The internship program is designed to equip and train future HCM employees. We are excited for you as you step into God’s will for your life and take on the challenge of making disciples. The information provided in this document is meant to give you an overview of the responsibilities as well as the benefits of this program. The model for this internship is broken into 5 core areas, each of which is described in greater detail below.
It is important to clarify that this internship is not employment. Rather, it is voluntary training program intended to best prepare you for future employment at HCM. Completing the internship is not a guarantee that you will be hired with HCM, nor are you under any obligation to pursue a career with HCM. Upon successful completion of your internship, should decide to pursue a career with HCM, you may apply for an open position and begin the hiring process.

Relationships: This is where you will build spiritual, professional and personal relationships with people in the role you are taking on as well as in the community.
Recovery Pastor – You will be given the opportunity to shadow the RP of a local campus and learn the ins and outs of the position through hands on experience and guidance from someone who is carrying out the role. You will meet daily with your RC and discuss scheduling and problem-solving for your campus. You will also be a part of weekly staff meetings with the other staff members on campus learning how to conduct the operations of a center from all aspects. You will enjoy the added benefit of mentorship outside of the professional setting.
Peer - You will also have the benefit of meeting periodically with interns from other campuses for the purposes of recreation, growth and to share best practices. Through this you will build a support network of other individuals who are carrying out the same role as you are on other campuses throughout the country.
Connection – You will attend church services and recovery meetings for the purpose of making connections to enhance your sphere of influence with members of the community. This will benefit you in multiple areas by helping you build a support network outside of Hope Center.
Discipleship: This portion of the description covers the aspects of not only the discipleship of residents in our program, but also for your own personal growth.
Volunteers– You will be responsible for assisting the local RP in the recruitment, training and placement of volunteers. This will allow you to develop your team building and leadership skills which are both pivotal roles in the RC position.
Counseling – You will be trained and then implemented to counsel, at a minimum, one 1st phase resident and one 2nd phase resident as well as being responsible for facilitating one group session per week.
College – Hope Center has partnered with Advantage College and ChurchED to offer all our interns classes on multiple topics related to discipleship, spiritual formation, leadership and personal growth. Your local RC will facilitate these classes on a weekly basis. **(You will be required to complete this year long portion of the internship to be considered for full time employment with HCM)
Culture: This aspect of your internship will deal directly with creating an environment on your local campus that is conducive to the discipleship process.
God Culture – One of the most important things you will do as an RP will be to create a godly culture in your house. This is done in many ways from the decorations in the house all the way to the conversations being held between residents. What you see and hear when you walk into a Hope Center should leave no question about what our mission is.
Structure – You will be assisting in the carrying out of a daily schedule for the residents on campus. Ensuring that all the aspects of the program are carried out in a timely manner. This will teach the residents under your stewardship how to live a productive life while also creating an atmosphere of togetherness and health.
Fun – You will be assisting in overseeing the planning, scheduling and execution of the free nights, holidays and Saturday fun days that will take place on your campus.
Families: The discipleship of the families of our residents is one of our primary goals. We know that addiction affects more than just the individual and that the best treatment program aids the families as well as the residents.
Family Group – You will be responsible for assisting the RP in the invitation, preparation and facilitation of our weekly family support groups. This will teach you how to interact with the family members of residents in a professional and supportive way.
Foundation Class – Working with an RP you will learn how to facilitate our foundations class with family members. This class is designed to inform and encourage the loved ones of residents during their program and is used as a vetting process for us to ensure that family members are healthy for the men and women in our program.
Passes – You will be responsible for assisting the RP in ensuring that the proper procedures for passes are followed as outlined in the intern model. This will include the approving, logging and proper sign out procedures are carried out.
Admin: This portion of the role will include the technical and procedural aspects of the RP position.
Board 411 – This is the computer program that is used ministry wide to document and track all aspects of the Hope Center program. You will learn how to navigate and utilize this program efficiently and effectively.
Intake – You will work hand in hand with the local RP during the admission process. Learning how to welcome new residents into our program and explain to them what our program is all about. You will also be responsible for creating an atmosphere for everyone that is admitted into our campus that is both welcoming and accepting of them as they begin their journey of discipleship.
Drug Screens – You will learn how to properly administer drug screens as outlined in our policies. This includes how to read results, log results and the schedule of when to administer a drug screen.

Leadership: This is where you will learn to lead by hands on application, with the oversight of the director you will oversee the facility, build teams, lead teams through different projects, teach core leadership principles & maintain a spirit of excellence. You will also learn a director’s responsibility in other key roles at Hope Center.
Facilities – You will learn the Hope Center facilities model and the expectations for both the exterior and interior of the campus. You will oversee the general maintenance of the home and know the safety requirements in place at each center. We will teach you the proper process for obtaining bids and completing construction projects at the center.
Leadership Application – You will learn team building, delegation and how to prioritize responsibilities. Through this experience you will be taught the importance of servant leadership, time management, goal setting, follow-through, communication and other leadership skills.
Admissions – Without residents, Hope Center does not exist! Directors are responsible for working side by side with the Admissions Coordinator to qualify residents, arrange transportation for legal appointments and for new admits, and assure the center is fulfilling it’s agreements with the legal community. In this area of the model, you will learn how to do this.
Discipleship: This covers personal and spiritual growth as well as expands your network of support to the community outside of Hope Center. Networking is an integral part of the Director role as well as important for your own long-term success.
Relationships – You will shadow the campus director, participate in weekly staff meetings, and a monthly 1:1 with the director where you will receive personal mentorship. You will meet with the community leaders of the campus and build relationships with the residents.
Growth/Development – Your continued walk with God is of the upmost importance. As an intern you will be expected to read your Bible daily and attend church weekly. The Director will also work with you to help you set and accomplish personal goals and get involved in the local community.
College – Hope Center partner with “Just Now Media” which provides multiple topics related to discipleship, spiritual formation, leadership and personal growth. Your local RP or Director will facilitate these classes on a weekly basis.
Finance:
Vocational Training – You will shadow the director to find partnerships, build relationships, initiate contracts, understand expectations, read financial documents and problem solve.
Fundraising – Focus on building relationships in your local community to raise funds through monthly giving, major gifts and meeting the needs of the residents. You will learn best practices in forging long- term relationships and keeping healthy communication with supporters.
Financial Health — You will be introduced to our financial system to understand the expectations, documents and goals set for your specific location. You will learn how to submit PO’s, utilize relationships, best practices for reaching goals and how to navigate financial demands.
Recovery: The Director serves as the direct supervisor of the Recovery Coordinator. To learn to lead and provide accountability over Recovery at Hope Center you must understand what it entails.
Weekends – You will learn how to prepare and facilitate a weekly family support group, set a monthly recreation budget, approve passes, and supervise visits.
Discipleship – You will learn the entire program from start to finish, what volunteer positions are required and how to set healthy goals for the team.
Culture – You will see best practices at your location, how to solve problems using the gospel and what to expect when setting foot at any campus.
Admin: This portion of the role will include the technical and procedural aspects of the Director position. This is required daily from each member of the team.
Board 411 – This is the program used ministry wide to document and track all aspects of Hope Center Ministries. You will learn how to navigate and use this program effectively. Specifically, you will learn accounts payable and receivable and the Director’s responsibilities in the resident portal.
Risk Management– You will learn how to properly assess and mitigate risk including a new intake, departures, detox, Narcan training and the medication policy.
Finance – The Director is responsible for the financial success of the center. As an intern to the Director, you will learn the importance of accuracy, time management, organization, timesheets, PEX , deposits and donation management.
In addition to the areas listed above, there will be other assignments and duties that come up during your internship that you will be expected to assist with. Interning for Hope Center is an exciting opportunity and we are continually working to improve what we do to better serve our residents and make disciples for Jesus. The ability to adapt and be flexible is a must!
