Overview

Talent Solutions is partnering with the Huffman Ranch. They are looking for a Hired Hand for their established cow/calf operation near Hyannis, Nebraska. The ranch runs around 1,000 head of cows. This job comes with a lot of independence. You will live at your own camp, about five miles from headquarters. It has a barn and shop, and you will have your own work pickup and side by side for ranch use. In the summer, you take care of your own groups of cattle near the camp. Calving and cattle work happen at the main place, and the crew meets at the shop each morning.

The crew is small, easy going, and respectful. Cattle work is done horseback. Side by sides are used for ranch work or as needed. The right person rides well, gets along with everyone, and can handle cattle on their own. They are patient working with crew members of all experience levels.

This is a remote location. It is a great fit for someone who knows Sandhills  and a family who enjoys living in the country.

What Sets This Opportunity Apart

• $4,000 to $4,500 per month, depending on experience

Responsibilities

• Feed round bales with hay processors through the winter


• Check water and keep salt and mineral out


• Calve heifers in March and cows starting in mid April 


• Tag and vaccinate calves horseback during calving


• Build and repair fence and get summer range ready


• Assist with brandings in the spring 


• Help AI heifers in June and turn out bulls in late June


• Look after your own groups of cattle near the camp through the summer


• Be a part of putting up hay in the summer


• Wean calves in the fall, trading help with neighbors, and give second round shots


• Doctor cattle as needed


• Working cattle horseback 

Qualifications

• Able to ride and work cattle horseback


• Cattle and calving experience


• Experience operating haying equipment


• Able to work independently and manage cattle on your own


• Gets along well with others and works well on a small crew


• Easy going and patient working alongside crew members of different experience levels


• Comfortable living in a remote location


• Experience working in the Sandhills is preferred

Compensation and Benefits

• $4,000 to $4,500 per month, depending on experience

• Up to 2 working dogs allowed


• One week of vacation
